The Bowling Alley

So... I've decided to return to my nerdy ways and return to the 40k tabletops...

this time walking away from my chaos-tastic creations into a new (more squishy) domain... and I'm definitely talking about the Imperial Guard.

The theme of the army is a battle torn rag-tag urban militia that fights not for glory of the emperor (but not for the chaos either)...

more or less... they are going to be a kitbashed army of cadian/catachen bits with a large amount of customization...

The current things I'm working on are The Female Commissar (Code named: Eve)

The Basilisk and Tank Commander (Code named: Salvatore)

And a Junior Command Squad (No Code Name Yet)

So this is the first stab at the EVE sculpt...

I tried to make her face pretty... but with that sinister smirk... unfortunately the photo doesnt do it justice...

but none the less This is her head, torso without the front of the coat sculpted yet (her undershirt and collar are though as you can tell...), and the loxer part of her coat and legs...

C&C are welcome and asked for...

thanks for watching!

Sounds like an interesting concept, i'm definately looking forward to seeing how it turns out

Also, empire and chaos fantasy pieces would be effective if you want to give them a worn down rag-tag look (Flagellants are especially good with the crazed up bearded faces)

Look at the size of 'em!

why is it, that when someone says ragtag, everyone immediately thinks large wispy beards and crazy faces?

it simply wont do any more. dont buy flaggelent heads for the great bushy beards, buy them for the cool metal masks and blind face. thats what i'd buy them for.

onto the scheme, id suggest the empire militia as well. great figs, and though the tights and stuff arent great, alot of the torsos look pretty awsome on cadian/ catachans. all the best

I imagine an unshaven/un-uniformed bunch of guys, so one of them has to have a beard :p

some will definitely have beards and such... more-so five o' clock shadow...

i guess to describe it better... the army will seem like if the vietnam war plopped down in the middle of a huge american city... the people didnt want it there... so they will band together as a militia and fight back until it goes away...

except you have to change vietnam to the whole universe and american to empirial...

so far I sculpted the commissar(ess?) but I'm not so sure I like her coat... any tips I might find on making her clothing out of greenstuff a little better?

thanks for the notes so far guys!

thanks for watching!

You may have more luck here.

Hope it helps. It should not be to hard to make it fit on a female commissar.

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

why thank you sir! that tutorial was rather helpful... I took a little bit of a different route... but it paid off very much so in the end...

I just hope I can find a camera soon to show you guys what she looks like so far... then this thing will be VERY pic heavy...

I may not be the best green stuffer (?) in the world... but I'm actually pretty proud of how she's turning out... especially her face... but none the less... the model is about 40% plastic 60% greenstuff...

so hopefully I can get pics up so its not like youre reading brail at a movie theatre...

until then.... thanks for watching!

very much so... if I really want to make a "risque" commissar... then I may in the future...

but for the tone of my army...

she needs to be seriously dressed...

but it doesnt mean she cant have a pretty smile...

Or that kind of sexy deadly look, like "Oh, I'd hit that, though I wouldn't want to be near her afterwards."

You know?

I'm fond of this model, but sadly it is just a tad to small when compared 40k models. The best way to described it would be that it looks small next to pig iron minis.

So I've completed most of her basic pose... the only thing I have to do is to define the front and back detail of her coat with GS... as well as go and do refining details such as filling in seams and making final details like her belt and such...

hope its alright so far!

Still waiting for Some kind of feedback...

thanks for watching!

(P.S. ever want to make yourself feel bad? take close up photos of your minis... I cant help think that they look so much better in person...)

Nice work on the coat. Looking forward to seeing what the face detail looks painted. Maybe add a chainsword/clost combat weapon holstered on her right hand side? Seems its lacking something like that. Keep going!

Thats great the coat looks brilliant and the face's also looking good. For a grizzled look I'd suggest painting a lot of it not modelling it if you know what I mean!

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.
