The way i do it:

Armour:
Spray black.
Foundation red all over.
Heavy blood red highlights.
Baal red wash.
Basic blood red highlights.
Blazing orange fine highlights.

Black parts:
Black undercoat.
50/50 chaos black and codex grey highlight.
Fine codex grey highlight.

Eyes: (green)
Dark angels green basecoat.
Goblin green highlight.
Scorpion green final highlight.
White dots for reflections.
(painting this much like gems are painted.

Metals:
Black basecoat.
Boltgun metal.
Mithril silver highlights.
Badab black wash.
Final mithril silver highlights.

Blue: (heavies helmets)
White basecoat.
Blue ink.
Ultramarines blue heavy highlights.
Enchanted blue light highlights.
70/30 enchanted blue / space wolf grey final highlights.

Hope that helps

My method (sorry, no pictures as I don't have a decent camera) is meant to look more 'grimdark' than most BA armies are. The vehicles look like warmachines, rather than freshly polished every battle, and I apply the same to my infantry.

Armour:
1) White undercoat.
2) Cover all armour in Mechrite Red.
3) Wash all armour in a generous coat of Badab Black, make sure it gets in all the recesses.
4) 50/50 mix of Mechrite Red and Blood Red. Paint this on the armour plating without going into the recesses. The Badab will show through the recesses and create a really nice shadow effect.
5) If you want highlights, either pure Blood Red works, or Blazing Orange if you want a more noticable one.

Baal Red may work in place of Badab if you want lesser shadows, my way is quite extreme shadowing.

Weapons:
1) Chaos Black everything.
2) Boltgun Metal on the metallic parts.
3) Badab Black on the metallic parts.
4) Currently, I use Boltgun Metal for highlights (to represent scratches), but any grey should work fairly well.

JD21290 already covered Devastator helmets, so..

'Fast' helmets (Assault Marines, Land Speeders, Bikes)
1) Iyanden Darksun basecoat.
2) Wash fairly generously in Gryphonne Sepia.
3) 50/50 mix of Iyanden Darksun and Sunburst Yellow, again avoiding recesses.
4) Highlight however you like. I usually use the same mix as above but add in more Sunburst to differ the colour slightly.

Eyes I usually paint Goblin Green, before washing lightly with Thraka Green, and re-highlighting with Goblin at the edges.

One reason I use this mix is for Vehicles. Adding the 50% Mechrite to the 50% Blood Red helps the Blood Red's consistency (otherwise it's an awful paint for leaving streak marks).

Word of advice though- don't use my method if you want a cleaner, 'shiny' Marine look. This looks more war-torn.
