Really big show this time around. First we finish our review of the World War II miniature war game "Flames of War" by Battlefront miniatures.

Next, Total Fan Girl scores and interview with Jennifer Rardin , author of the Jaz Parks series of urban fantasy novels.

Finally, the D6G team tackles a detailed review of Firestorm: Armada, the new space combat miniature war game from Spartan Games.

All that and our usual 'not too horrible' humor, with features such as:

- The Hollywood Minute
- Rapid Fire
- What's in the News
- & More

Please let us know what you think!

Thanks SpookyVeez! Russ and I did go to see the movie, in IMAX in 3D, and it still wasn't worth it. 2 1/2 hours and $30 that I'll never get back....we shoulda gone to see Sherlock Holmes!

Hey Guys, good show so far.

Craig, Middle Earth Quest is actually really easy to get into, especially if you are playing a Hero. (I think it's a little more complicated for the Dark Lord.) It being Fantasy Flight, the rules are clear, and concise, and once you go through one turn with the rulebook at hand, you've pretty much got the hang of it.

I liked the Firestorm review a great deal. Again, I curse you all for making me want a new game.

After some debate, the wife and I decided not to go see it. We are not the types to get off on being offended but the slightly glossed over evil Americans who go and invade and pillage the innocent natives routine has gotten old. Your tribute did it the justice it deserves on so many levels. Cameron had the opportunity to write an orginal story and do something special with it and blew it.

Ahem, back on topic; loved the show and could not believe the twist ending to the Flames of War review.

I just came across the D6gen. podcasts recently... and must say..Great show!!

I particularly like the "rapid fires"
But this time the reviews are a bit tough on someone like myself, who has a huge interest in BOTH WWII AND starfleet combat... but who has no mates who would play such games with :( .
In fact. All the rule books for the space combat game "full thrust" has been sitting on my shelf for the past 7 yeas or so, and now, thanks to you guys, My life won't be complete before I receive the ones for Firestorm Armada to keep them company

As for the spaceship models. I agree that they are some of the best ones around, but have you considered scratch building your own?
I rememberer getting an entire squardron of destroyers done(using ships from the "Homeworld" computer game as inspiration), before I came to realize that no one other than me cared for the game! :(.. still they are fun to build

Keep up the good work!

Regards
Christian

The brief discussion in this episode about basing starship minis was a familiar one to me. I've been griping about them for as long as I have been collecting.

I recently picked up two fleets for Firestorm Armada (Sorylian and Aquan). Although the minis are great, I HATED the flimsy plastic flight stands, so I used a basing method I found on Starship combat news some time ago, along with a few tweaks of my own.

See this link for the top part of the stand:

http://www.star-ranger.com/BasingMinis.htm

Here is what I do for the bottom of the stand:

1. Tap a flat headed nail into the bottom of the brass tube you created above
2. Set the nail into a bit of epoxy putty in the center of the plastic Spartan Games base
3. Find a metal washer big enough to go around the head of the nail and glue it down to the base of the plastic flight stand
4. After affixing the nail head/brass tube and the large washer, put a small amount of additional epoxy putty around the base of the brass tube where the nail fits in
5. Find a smaller washer that is just big enough to go over the brass rod and press it down on the epoxy putty, thus filling the void between the washers

This creates a nicely weighted and REALLY sturdy flight stand. Plus, you can remove the ships for storage by simply screwing them off!

I'll be happy to post pictures if anyone is interested.

Hope to see some games of Firestorm Armada at Gencon this year!

Cheers!

Well, that 4 hrs went by quick!

Another great episode, guys (and girl). Though I must confess that towards the end of the FOW review I was ready to move on.

Really enjoyed the Firestore: Armada review. I'm trying hard to not want this game! I don't get enough opportunity to play the games I have, let alone picking up another one. But, it sounds really, really cool and those models are beautiful.

I have made a 2010 goal to game more this year. Last year was tough and I barely played anything. There were a lot of factors involved including moving to a more rural area, spending most of my time on massively rennovating a 120 year old farmhouse, etc. But, this year I am going to be more intentional. D6G has been a great virtual game group in these game-less days. Thanks for that. Listening to you guys makes me wish I could get in some games with y'all.

I just finished listening to the episode and as usual I loved it. The limerics was awesome.

I would love if you could post the best of them (the ones you read anyway) here in the thread or in the shownotes. Or I have to write them down playing the episode on autorepea. Until my girlfriend throws my laptop out the window.

Help me D6G you are our only hope.
