I have a question about elite chocies and genrally what people prefer. Right now I have one slot filled with Assault terminators and later on I intend to expand my list. I was wondering if it'd be better to fill up left over two elite slots. I was thinking of either dual dreads with Assault Cannon and Heavy Flamer or Sternguard. I'm running a mech list.

Well if you are Get a Forge Master So you can have 3 dreadnoughts in heavy support.

Then get 1 squad of Sternguard for their L33t Abilities and get one terminator squad or one dreadnought.

what is your army list?

Split the difference and go Heavy Flamer Sternguard (in a Razorback).

Planned initial list is:

Vulkan He'stan

Assault Terminators w/ Landraider Crusader

3 Tac Squads in Rhinos

2 Vindicators

That's the base >_>

I'd consider two Dreads with assault cannons (multimeltas for Salamanders) and heavy flamers.
I used two of those walkers in a recent RTT and they did very well.

There has been a plethora of Vulkan lists posted around the various forums, including here. Try some Searchy-Fu on the Army Lists forum for "Vulkan" I'll bet you can find enough lists and discussion to really inform your decision here.

Good luck, and let us know what you come up with!

Ditto on the Dreadnoughts, though you might want to consider giving them Twin-Linked Lascannon, so that they can provide some support as the rest of your army closes.

Alternately you might consider some Land Speeders.
