Just like the title says, that's what Im curious about. I realize it's a chunk of points out of the army, about a quarter, but is it worth it? I was planning on running either a Space Marine Battle Force or the Assault on Black Reach models as my core 500ish points to start, and go from there.

Any thoughts?

Well, an lRC in 1000 pt games is nearly indestructable.
I find it a bit cheesy.

Consider the following list:
Librarian w/ terminator armor, storm shield, nullzone, avenger - 140
10 Termies - 400
10 Tactical Marines w/ ml, flamer - 170
10 Tactical Marines w/ ml, flamer - 170
Take Scouts for the remaining points.

A Land Raider at that point level, to paraphrase what another user said (I sadly don't remember who), is like a list check. If you opponent can't handle it, you win. If they can, it's now your 750 against their 10

If your regular opponents aren't prepared, go ahead and do it to see the looks on their faces. I personally play guard, with 2 manticores and 2 units of meltavets at 1k, so I'd be happy to play against you and have a good chance of taking it out relatively painlessly.

So, really, take it only if you know they're not prepared. If they are, you're just wasting points. If you're planning for a tournament or just making a serious list, then I say don't do it.

Now, if it was a 750 game and you squeezed in 2 Land Raiders, that would be supercheese.

It's cheesy, but it brings a volume of fire that could be called "ungodly" for a transport unit... There's always going to be a counter, and I'd probably suggest taking 2 if you're going to commit to it, just for the insurance and the panic factor. Just be sure you've got something to pop THEIR transports, as well.

I say that a single land raider per every 1,000 points is viable, though I get very upset everytime my brother uses one in 500 points... Or 3 in 1,000...

I do like your list Wustenfex, what were the Terminators armed with, just Storm Bolters/Powerfists? Are they split and riding in the LRC?

What I was planning on using was the AoBR models along with the Battle Force models, though I didnt actually buy the Battle Force, so Im short the 5 Scouts that go with it, but I have everything else.

Captain (which Id be happy to swap out for a Librarian)
Dreadnought w/ Multimelta
x5 Terminators
x10 Tactical w/ Missle Launcher, Flamer
x10 Tactical w/ Missle Launcher, Flamer
x5 Combat Squad w/ Bolters
x5 Assault

For Heavies I have x2 Predator Destructors, x1 Vindicator, x1 Land Raider Crusader, I can make a Devastator Squad with all Plasma Cannons.
I say Heavy Support because that's the only thing the army wouldnt have in it.

Sorry, he plays CSM, the name is different but the principle is the same... chaos lords are only 90 points

As for the list, looks alright for a footslogger, though I would suggest upping the assault marine number or dropping 'em all together...

Im open to suggestions as far as my marine list goes. Id love to stick to at least what comes in the AoBR set plus a 2nd tactical squad for sure.

Again, Id happily swap the Captain out for a Librarian.

What else works for you guys?

Land Raider Crusader with Multi-melta and extra armor
2 tact squads - ML, flamer in rhinos
985 points

I just read an article on how to expand upon 2 AoBR boxt sets. Here was that 1850 list

140 Librarian in terminator armor
125 Dreadnought with dual t.l autocannons
125 Dreadnought with dual t.l autocannons
660 Terminators - 10; TH/SS, LRC with MM
205 Tactical - 10; ML, flamer in rhino
205 Tactical - 10; ML, flamer in rhino
85 Predator - AC, 2 HB
85 Predator - AC, 2 HB
260 LRC with MM
1850

Looks like all you'll need is another dreadnought and 1 more LRC.

Nothing at all wrong with it.

I played in a 1000 pt tournament a while back and my buddy brought two land raiders at 1,000 points. He did quite well until one opponent got two lucky shots with a vindicator and blew them both up. That is the risk of it. If you enemy has decent anti tank weapons, you are hosed.

1 I think it absolutely fine.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have this LRC that I bought a few years ago, but havent even gotten a chance to use lol. Im finally getting a Space Marine chapter painted (after 12 years of trying to decide haha), and am excited to get it painted......after I get my AoBR and maybe what comes in the Battle Force painted.

By the way, a little off topic, would a 5 man scout squad be useful, and if so what weapon load out is not necessarily the best, because that's opinion/situation, but overall good?
