I saw this book for $50 at the local gaming shop. I remember when the 4 books came out in the early 2000s but never heard much chatter one way or the other.
Anyone have an opinion on it?

I just got it for Christmas. It's fething awesome, with tons of cool artwork and there are all these notes and so on by the fictional author who is slowly descending into madness.
My favourite part is where the 'author' looks into the Warp and sees Space Marines and learns about the Black Crusades and the Fall of the Eldar.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

I got a copy on eBay, and I think it's great. It's a artsy fluff book, more aimed at fantasy than 40k, but with info relating to both. The artwork is great, some of stories are great, and there's a wealth of hidden information in there such that you can find yourself finding new details with each reading.
If that's the sort of thing you like, it's a good buy.

It's definitely worth the price. To compliment Redbeard's comment, the more you like WHFB the more you'll like Liber Chaotica. That said, I am very ambivalent about fantasy but really like flipping through this book now and again. It's one of the reasons I'm putting together a Word Bearer army now. If you like the fluff of C: CD you'll really enjoy reading through this.

I should mention if not here, then anywhere, that Barnes and Noble has an undisclosed stash of the Illustrated Guide to the Inquisition and the Munitorium Manual.
Was quite excited to find that, since I'd not been able to find either when they came out.

I look forward to your review of the Inquisition book. I can't bring myself to spend that much on a 96 page book on other books that I didn't like that well. I had thought the Munitorum manual was out of print, however. I have the Uplifting Primer.
In any case, Liber Chaotica is definitely my favorite BL non-novel. Go ahead and pick one up, K_K.

Should have a review in a few days, barring any unfortunate delays via the weather actually.
Both just shipped out today from NJ, so...

Well, "The Inquisition: An Illustrated Guide to the Secretive Protectors of the Imperium" arrived today.
It's...not that bad. From what I saw of reviews on it, I expected it to be "OMG Terrible!". But really, it hearkens to the Star Wars: Complete Encyclopedia done by Steve Sansweet some years back.
It has some cool artwork I've never seen before, including representations of the Inquisition(illustrations of the 'typical' members of the Ordos alongside a detailed description of that Ordos), including an Inquisitor based off of Solomon Lok for Ordos Xenos(!) and a Malleus one based off of http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/armySubUnitCats.jsp?catId=cat1140003&rootCatGameStyle=
In addition to that, we've got explanations of all the varying disciplines of Inquisitors and their beliefs. But it wouldn't be an Inquisition book without heavily featuring Eisenhorn's mob, or Jaq Draco or even Inquisitor Silas Hand.
In brief?
It's great if you want some cool illustrations to use as inspiration for Inquisitor models, it's FANTASTIC if you're looking for information about the Ordos themselves, or their Chamber Militants.
But, if you're hoping to get some kind of secret insight into the way an Inquisitor's mind works? Ehhhh. Is not so good for that. It's more of a reference material, like an Osprey UK walkaround modeling book for an AFV, rather than a biography.
