So first off, I remembered to charge the camera and bring it to the store...and then promptly left it in the car when we began to play. Whoops. So I'll get pictures next time.

The Board: Our third party decided he wanted symetry today. Each corner had a good sized piece of area ruins in it. There was a big ruined temple (difficult for infantry, impassible to vehicles) in the center. There was a small, rock covered hill in the center of each long table edge and two small bushes about half way between the center temple and the short board edge. Mission was rolled as Seize Ground with 4 Objectives. Tyranids placed one objective on each side of the temple towards the centerline, Marines placed two objectives closer to their deployment zone with one behind the ruined temple and one next to the area ruins in the lower right corner.

8 Genestealers
8 Genestealers
4 Carnifexes (2x Twin-linked Devourers, 1x Venon Cannon & Death spitter, 1x Venon Cannon & barbed strangler)
2 Zoanthropes

Deployment: (From left to right) Tyranids deploy 20 hormogaunts and zoanthrope in upper left ruins. 20 termagaunts are next, followed by 3 carnifexes in the center behind the temple ruins. 20 more termagaunts, the Dakkafex and zoanthrope in the upper right ruins along with 20 hormogaunts. Broodlord and pals infiltrate immeadiately behind the temple ruins (closest they can get and still be out of LOS/in cover) while the other two genestealer broods outflank and the Flyrant deep strikes. Everything combat squads for the Marines, with both the heavy and the special in one combat squad and the Sergeant in the other. 1 las/plas team goes into the lower left ruins with the Typhoon behind the ruins. Predator is next on the left side of the center hill. Missile/plas team goes on the hill, followed by two Razorbacks, the Vindicator, two more Razorbacks. Second Missile/plas team goes on the objective next to the lower right ruins, with the last las/plas team and the thunderfire cannon deploying inside the lower ruins (which the Techmarine promptly bolsters). The multi-melta attack bikes hide behind the tank line in the center and the HB bikes hide behind the bolstered ruins. Librarian goes into the right most Razorback, thinking that any outflanking bugs that get into the 3+ cover ruins can be handled by The Avenger. Marines attempt to seize the initiative and roll a 5. Nids go first.

Tyranid Turn One
Everything surges forward. The zoanthrope on the right shots the missile/plas team on the objective and kills 4 out of 5 marines. The missile launcher marine looks at the 20 hormogaunts who moved 6 out of the ruins and fleeted a prompt 4 and decides to fall back (yay combat tactics!). He runs back 8. The dakkafex whiffs everything and the other 3 carnis are out of range. The other zoanthrope shots the las/plas team in the lower left ruins and scatters off. No assaults.

Marine Turn One
The multi-melta attack bikes snake out from behind the Razorbacks after one shifts slightly to give them an opening. The HB bikes move up and occupy the spot previously held by the missile/plasma team by the objective. Everything else stands still. The four Razorbacks, the MM attack bikes, and the intact missile/plasma team, and the left-side las/plas team kill of the Broodlord and friends. Think the Predator puts a wound on one of the carnifexes in the center. The HB bikes, Vindicator, Thunderfire cannon and the right-side las/plas team kill off the 20 hormogaunt squad on the right side completely. Shooting from the typhoon kills off some of the left side hormogaunts as well. No assaults.

Tyranid Turn Two
The Flyrant and one genestealer brood arrive from reserves. The genestealers come in on the right flank and are still in assault range despite a poor fleet roll of 2. The flyrant scatters back 11 inches toward the Tyranid deployment zone and barely avoids a mishap. Just enough room to land between two gaunts. Everything surges forward again. Flyrant kills the Lascannon and a Bolter marine in the left side las/plas team. Carnifexes kill the center missile/plas team down to just the plasma gunner (who stoically passes). Both zoanthropes try to put the ST 10 shot into vehicles and miss. Dakkafex whiffs for the second turn in a row, this time against the HB bikes. Left side hormogaunts fail DF terrain to assault the left-side las/plas team (needed a four and rolled a bunch of threes). The genestealers plow into the right side las/plas team, who go first because they are in cover. 5 Tactical Marines promptly kill two genestealers and only lose two bolter marines in return. Exactly what the Nids wanted.

Marine Turn Two
Both attack bike squads move up, focusing on the right side termagaunts and zoanthrope. Librarian and his tactical squad get out and head in to counter-assault the genestealers. There are only six left and with the dice from charging I might be able to finish them off. Or at least keep them tied up through the next Nid turn. The Razorbacks, Predator, and Las/plas squad on the left (along with the two lone survivors from the other combat squads) combine to kill two carnifexes in the center. The Typhoon chips away some more of the left flank hormogaunts and the Vindicator scatters of the hormogaunts and kills two termagaunts instead. The thunderfire uses his 60" range to kill off 8 of the left flank hormogaunts, bringing them down to 7 or 8. The HB bikes fire on the zoanthrope and succeed in getting a wound through. The MM bikes kill some of the termagaunts on the right side. Both AB squadrons combine in a multi-assault against the right side termagaunts and zoanthrope. The gaunts actually wound the MM bikes, but lose 6 in return. The zoantrhope passes all 5 no retreat saves (d'oh!) but the gaunts lose 4 more reducing them down to 6 or 7. The Librarian and his combat squad with powerfist charge into the stealers. The stealers put a wound on the librarian and whiff everything else. The Librarian's force weapon kills one, the powerfist crushes two and amazingly, the Tac Marines cause 4 wounds and zero saves are made, resulting in the stealers being destroyed outright. Both squads consolidate towards the far edge of the lower right ruins, as far as possible from the board edge.

Tyranid Turn Three
Left side gaunts move towards the center. Flyrant moves full bore and ends up where he was trying to deepstrike to last turn. Last genestealer squad arrives on the left flank. The Dakkafex hits with everything, causing 8 wounds to the Librarians squad and catching both the Thunderfire and the techmarine crew in the blast. After an amazing run of saving throws, not a single casualty is taken and the template fails the chance to glance the Thunderfire. The flyrant shakes one Razorback and the sole carnifex left in the middle shakes another. The genestealers fail their terrain check and the hormogaunts charge the lone plasmagunner on the center hill, killing him in a frenzy of scything talon goodness. The ABs kill the Zoanthrope and one gaunt and remain locked in combat with the remains of the squad.

Marine Turn Three
The two shaken Razorbacks move out, one moving twelve inches towards the AB melee to bring a scoring unit to that objective and the other retrogrades 7", keeping him in striking range (~9") from another objective. The left side las/plas team, knowing they can't escape the genestealers, steps up to rapid fire on the left flank zoanthrope who is in the open to them since the hormogaunts assaulted. Shooting goes ridiciliously well. The flyrant and the last center carnifex die in a wave of lascannon and plasma fire, with the Vindicator placing the final wound on the Flyrant. The Typhoon picks off some of the last hormogaunts and the Thunderfire kills some of the left flank termagaunts (the last brood that still had 20 models at the start of the turn). The surviving plasma gunner on the left flank puts two wounds on the Zoanthrope, killing it. The ABs kill off the last of the gaunts in melee and consolidate away from the dakka fex just to be sure he doesn't try to climb down and assault them.

Having no synapse creatures left, the Tyranid player conceeded at this point. Overall, it was a good game. The objective placement almost mandated that the Nids walk into the Marine gun line and he had some bad rolls in key fights. The fact that the hormogaunts didn't have +1 strength also let me hold my vehicles still for max firepower since the gaunts couldn't hurt them in assault. The tyranid player put alot of pressure on me each turn by keeping good assault units in ranges where I had to deal with them, but thankfully my list had enough firepower to cope.
