So i have played CSM for about a year now and finally have my army mostly painted up and all built. i love playing with them, but am thinking about staring Guard. I want an army that looks different then most (AKA not catachan or Cadian). I like Vlahallan, but the models are old and look kinda shabby...any input?

Like Vahallan but out dated look...

How about Vostroyans ?
Any plans on adding tanks? the amount of metal figures needed might add up to alot of $

If you want lots of detail and decadence vostroyans are pretty nice. Theres also praetorians if you can find the models for a good price. Or tallarn desert raiders. Also look up savlar chemdogs if you want a more rag tag bunch of ner do wells. Great theme for a conversion. Those are just the loyalists i can think of right now. You could always go for renegade guard in look or even blood pact.

Hadn't even thought of that. yeah perfect excuse fluffwise to have a mix of models. You could make them all have some kind of identifying mark on their armor to denote their dishonor of being a penal trooper to help add some cohesion maybe. But a good idea indeed. Opens avenues for many types of conversions also. The chemdogs are named after the polluted, overpopulated savlar they call home. Most of them are rogues and thieves conscripted to guard or volunteer to escape their home world. The model conversions Ive seen show them as ragged but vicious fighters who are mostly in it for the loot they get off killing an enemy than anything. The old doctrines system meant they would never sweeping advance for the reason they were too busy looting dead enemies bodies. The games workshop conversions for them was pretty green stuff intensive but the kolony rebels from the pig iron productions range bodies look vaguely similar in base appearance.

What the hell are "Staring Guard?" Do they give you the evil eye or something?

If you want a fairly distinctive look, you can use Cadian arms on Brettonian men-at-arms bodies. Just pick up some Cadian lasgun bits from the Warstore and tack em on the Brets. You could do the same with Catachan arms, but it would look a lot sillier.

I was thinking for some cool Savlar chem dogs would be to buy the FW renegade parts and de-chaosify them.
