Hey, i want to convert some of my cadian troops, but i want them to remain looking somewhat uniform, not like a ragtag bunch you get from using fantasy bits. But i want to do a bit more than just 'slapping on some pig-iron heads'

Also, what are good pieces to use to make officers and commanders. I have a command squad and a commissar but i fancy making a proper commander, like the leaders in Dawn of War.

If there are no parts, are there any good beginner greenstuff tutorials.

Thanks

Generic as it sounds, grab some Catchan bits. Their box sets contain several heads and arms which would make your army look truely personal.

I've had some sucess with SM scout heads as well. the added comms and antanae around their ears make great sargent heads.

In terms of green stuff, the eaisest thing to sculpt on IG are berets. Just blob some Green Stuff on their heads and jabs some folds in them with a knife.

The difference between commitment and involvement is like eggs and ham; the ckicken was "involved", the pig was "comitted".

To Make the Dow commander I'm guessing you could use space marine parts like lightning claws and and storm bolters on a bulked up imperial commander. You could probably use catachan legs with pockets shaved off for his legs and maybe a space marine bare head to make him look bigger.

Using Fantasy bits doesn't neccesarily mean they're going to look hodge podge and out of uniform. You just need to be regular with what bits you use, and what bits you order.

If you just buy a box of Cadians and a box of Brettonians you'll end up with 40 quite random looking guys, but if you make a solid decision, like "every model has brettonian body, brettonian head 1 or 5, and cadian arms" then you end up with something pretty uniform.

You get the individual bits you need from bits sites.

Some of the more common kitbashes are..

- Cadian body + Wood Elf hood & Cloak = Tanith-style camo troops.
- Brettonian Peasant body and head + Cadian arms = First world war style
- Cadian body and arms + Beastman head = Abhuman Regiment
- Dwarf body and head + Cadian arms = Squats

But then there are endless possibilties using very specific empire or space marine or other parts.

Have a look on BOLS and try to find their Macharian Crusades document. It has some really good 'uniform' Guard kitbashes...

What precisely is it you're trying to DO though?
Are you trying to make them look more like veterans, having scavenged gear and lots of packs/non-standard(but still easily recognizable as 'standard') equipment?
That would help out quite a bit when trying to figure out what bitz you want.

And as for making officers/commanders--the Cadian Command Squad. I'm assuming you want a greatcoat and a more 'armored' looking body. In which case, there's a torso that has a chestplate with an aquila on a chain for it(it's a refractor field, as far as I'm aware. Looks like the artwork from last edition's codex of the Cadian Sergeant wearing one at least) that can be made to look great.

If you use Catachan bits to convert your Cadians, make sure they're from the heavy weapons or command squad boxes. They're actually geared to be interchangeable, while the Catachan troops models are a bit bulkier and leave a lot to be desired, detail wise. Besides, Catachan troops have belts on their torsos instead of their pants so any Cadian legs paired with them would result in men with two belts. This pantaloon problem is a non-issue with the other boxes.
