Gents,

I have been really trying to think about my future IG army list. I have what I feel a pretty solid core but am really having problems trying to fill my remaining slots. Here is what I have so far, advice is welcome.

-Company Command Squad, with Astropath and 4 Plasma guns all loaded in a Chimera (my plasma taxi)

-Sly Marbalo, (my reach out and kill that unit guy)

-Psyker Battle Squad (8), mounted in a Chimera (my large blast template/ leadership reducing squad)

-LRBT, with Plasma Cannon Turrets (Hurts even the heaviest troops)

-LRBT, with Plasma Cannon Turrets (Hurts even the heaviest troops)

-Manticore, (Long range tank killer or troop killer)

-Platoon Command Squad, with 4 flamers mounted in a Chimera (my kill any swarm squad)

-Infantry Squad, with Grenade Launcher and Auto Cannon mounted in a Chimera (Objective holder and support by fire unit)

-Infantry Squad, with Grenade Launcher and Auto Cannon mounted in a Chimera (Objective holder and support by fire unit)

-Vet Squad with 3 Melta guns mounted in a Chimera (anti infantry vehicle)

-Vet Squad, with 3 Melta guns mounted in the Valkyire with MRP's (scout move, kill tanks)

-Valkyire with Mutiple Rocket Pods (transport my melta vets and provide anti horde firepower after dropping off vets, late game objective grabber)

-Speical Weapons Squad, with Demo Charge and 2X flamers mounted in a Vendetta (This squad is designed to clear an objective late game by riding in the Vendetta and then holding it FTW)

-Vendetta with 3X TW Lascannons (transports my SWS for late game obective clearing and securing)

SOOO... this leaves me with about 110 pts left what would you guys recommend adding to this list or changing in it? What has been performing well out there? I have been deployed for the last 10months so I have had limited playing time with the new codex. I think the list is very balanced and it can deal with horde OR armor. It has a total of 9 AV 12 vehicles and 2 AV 14 vehicles.

I'm still learning IG myself so take my advice with alot of salt, but I'll do what I can. I'm also approaching this from the perspective of a potential opponent, namely Chaos.

Seems pretty good. The Astropath seems like it will help you some, but at the same time your entire army isn't completely reliant on Reserves so its not mandatory. I'd be more scared of OoF and having you screw with my Reserves. I used to be a fan of the Plasma taxi, but anymore I feel that the Melta taxi is a better idea because its cheaper, safer and better at tank killing. I find I have alot of S6/7 with Chimera and Autocannons.

If nothing else he's a fun little guy. Expect him to kill a unit and die.

Useful for non-Fearless armies, however those are becoming more and more rare. This seems kind of like a novelty unit to me, not bad but I think I'd prefer another Leman Russ.

These I don't like to be honest. If you really want Plasma spamming, I'd just take a Executioner. The Battle Cannon is wasted against Terminators and the sponons make you too static for my tastes. I think I'd take the bare naked LRBT most of the time, maybe upgrade to a Lascannon if I wanted to threaten enemy armor/MCs at range.

-Manticore, (Long range tank killer or troop killer)

These things seems scary, especially against Land Raiders.

-Platoon Command Squad, with 4 flamers mounted in a Chimera (my kill any swarm squad)

Very solid. I keep bouncing back and forth between 4x Flamers or 4x Grenade Launchers. Both seem to have their appeal.

I've heard alot of people having success with these squads. Once deployed, thats alot of mid S shots going downrange. I'd keep the Heavy Bolter on the Chimera (I didn't see it specified one way or the other)

Both seem to be fairly standard power builds so they should be good.

I'm not sure about these guys, seems like such a small squad with a niche role.

I'll be honest, I'm terrified of Vendettas.

I'd probably put out another mechanized infantry squad. It seems like you're a little short on scoring units to be honest. Another Chimera + Infantry squad will fill those points perfectly.

I'd squeeze another mechanized scoring unit on to the list - 60 scoring squishies is nothing to sneeze at in a mechlist.

If you feel you have enough scoring, then I'd say a squadron of scout sentinels for even more tactical flexibilty (not to mention 9 multilasers on the field).

One of the hellhound varieties is also a possibilty - if you feel you lack a capabililty, one of them will fill it, though you'd have to shave some points somewhere. It's a solid force.

Thanks I agree about the 60 scoring guys also. also, I like the hellhound variants or possibly another vendetta.

I agree with Minigun762 on the Russes.

Russes are for when you want more AV14, other vehicles are typically more shooty.

IMO, if you take Russes, take only/mostly Russes as your vehicles - or their big advantage, their armor, won't come into play as your opponent simply targets your other vehicles first.

If you swap out those Russes for either two Manticores, four Hydras, or some combination of the two, you'll have more points - may I recommend one more Chimera, plus an Inquisitor Lord from the DH codex with 3 Mystics and a Psychic Hood? Deep-striking defense is always nice, and if SW and 'Nids (and even the IG PBS) are any indication psychic powers are becoming monsters in the new codecies, and psychic defense will be very nice to have. If you keep the Russes, you can take an Elite Inquisitor instead of a Lord but then you'd be using the Psychic Hood on LD8 instead of LD10.

Another question I have is if you had to take out 40pts from this list to make it 1850pts what would you recommend I drop and change?

I would take something away that doesn't tamper with the units much. If they're magnetized, I'd go for the PC's on one of the LRBT's. The astro could go - valks can use their scout to good effect anyways. You could drop the rocket pods from the valks or downgrade the demo charge to another flamer for more point savings without changing the list.
