Hopefully a simple question...

Lets say you have +2 to reserve rolls at the beginning of turn 3 (lets say you are playing eldar with two autarchs). The base roll is 3+. If you add +2 to your reserve roll it then becomes a 1+. Now do you still roll and on a 1 they still fail to come in, or do they automatically come in (on a roll of 1 or greater, which you cannot fail)?

A 1 always fails, (EDIT after the page number I have found) in this case.
Turn 5 is automatic.

So:
2 Autarchs can:
Turn 2: 2+
Turn 3: 2+
Turn 4: 2+
Turn 5: Auto.

1 Autarch can:
Turn 2: 3+
Turn 3: 2+
Turn 4: 2+
Turn 5: Auto.

Or when ever they feel like applying the bonus.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

There is no rule that says that a roll of 1 is a failed Reserves roll. So if a bonus lets you bring on Reserves on a 1+, a roll of a 1 will be a success. So no need to roll... just bring them on.

er ... 1 isn't always a fail unless the rules say so ... Shooting is but i think thats it.

And armour saves, although that is a consequence of 2+ being the best possible save.

I would play it as a 1+ is... roll a 1 or higher.

I usually use Farseers anyway so it hasn't come up for me yet though.

interesting thought... Eldar pathfinders get +2 to cover... fortified position are 3+ cover saves... but if you can pass on a 1+ with sufficient modifiers then thats just sick and wrong (just hope theres no flamers around)

Yup, a roll of one is only a autofail for Wounds, Ranged To Hit and Saves (off the top of my head).

That should have been my line. ;D

But coming from you, is Dooms day approaching?

Page 24 of the rulebook, 'Maximum Save'
No save can ever be better than 2+.

Nah, It's just a disclaimer to make sure if I do forget something, I can blame the Gin.

Hmmmmmmmmm.... Gin!

Oh, I just remembered, for Characteristic Tests (Toughness test, Initiative Test etc.) a Roll of 1 always passes and a Roll of 6 always fails

Hmmmmmm.....

I think I'm right though.

You know, I think I actually missed that bit the last time this came up as well.

How embarrassment.

Well to be fair, he did not say it was specifically the Autarch. Yeah, for an autarch, a roll of one is a failure, for something like an IG Astropath, a roll of one is NOT a failure.

Since it's fun to nitpick, a roll of 1 to hit isn't always a failure if you have BS6 isn't it?

You sir are correct, on a 6+ BS.

On the note of Autarch, please smack the writer for putting that blurb in there for me.

And even with BS10, rolling 1 on the second roll is a fail
