I got a bunch of hand-me down orks from someone who switched from them to Chaos Space Marines, and I'd like some feedback on this army I've got going. It's a 500 points match, and here's what I got so far.

A warboss with a PK and slugga + bosspole (90)

Big Mek with choppa and KFF (85)

3 Killa Kans. 2 with rokkits, and one with a skorcha (50+50+40=140)

12 boyz +nob w/pk+bosspole (113)

12 boyz (72)

500points

The plan is I put the 12 boyz with the warboss and the 12 boyz+nob with the mek and use the kans as walking cover. Depending on terrain, I may have the Warboss boyz try to flank, but for sure the 12boyz+mek will follow behind the kans, using them as cover and with the KFF giving the kans a cover save as well. I only have two concerns. The first is I'm going against an IG army with anti-tank stuff, so I'm not terribly confident the kans will hold up.
The second is if this tatic would even work. It sounds solid, but I'm new to this, so I'm curious if there is something I'm forgetting.

If any of you lot have a suggestion or changes you'd like me to consider, please let me know. I originally had a two trukk plan, but I only have one and am waiting on the second to come into my local GW shop.

For Ork at 500 I'd personally got 1 PK warboss with shoota and boss pole and 2x 30 ork mob of slugga boyz each with a Nob with a PK.

Move 6 Run, Move 6 Run, Move, Waagh, Assualt. Basically. But your Mileage May Very. Each Ork Waagh has it's own personal style, but most are more flashy and choppy then shooty.

That is generally how you roll with Orks in a 500pt game. most of the time, your opponent cant pump enough bullets into the mobs before you can assault. So you still have tons of boyz left, AND the warboss/nob to creme anything out there. At 500pts Orks are a real bitch of an army to play against.

I wouldn't be afraid of that list with my current Tyranids 500 point list. As it stands this is my build at that level.

HQ:
Tyrant (ES, T. Sacs, Fleshhooks 2x Devourers) - 123
Tyrant (ES, T. Sacs, 2x Devourers) - 121

Troops:
Spine Gaunts (WoN) - 64
Spine Gaunts (WoN) - 64

Heavy Support:
Carnifex (ES, Adrenal Glands [+1 I] Spine Banks, 2x Devourers) - 124

My strategy is to screen with gaunts and go second. I focus fire on a squad with my Tyrants and Fex and in an average turn kill 22 out of cover, or 13 in cover. If I can get you out of cover, and it isn't the squad with the warboss, there is a 27.3% chance that mob runs and doesn't come back. Of course I'd much rather focus on the squad with your warboss in it as a small chance he runs is worth it.

Next turn can either Waaagh! but if I played it right you'll need a 5 or a six to reach my gaunts and that gives me an extra turn to remove that first squad with a Tyrant and put some hurt on your other squad. Or you can shoot and possibly put a wound or two on a Tyrant or my Fex. Next turn I still shoot away your last squad and half kill the other so it doesn't change too much.

Then again I think that Nids are the nastiest list at 500 points and have yet to be proven wrong, so I might just have a codex edge there.

IG can always go

Lord Commissar-70

vets-70

Platoon
PCS-30
5x infintry squad -250
20 man conscript squad -80

all together you have 80 lasgun shots first turn, and a commissar to keep them from running and a command squad to issue orders and use FRFSRF! Incoming! and Move! Move! Move!.
