You could use a piece of MDF and Aluminium/Brass rod for the stand. Or you could drill three holes at 45 degree angles and use multiple pieces of rod to create a "tripod".

you could use magnets.

Rare earth magnets are great

On my scratch-built T-Hawk, I glued a square sheet of plasticard on it's bottom at the center of gravity. To that, I glued a 1/2"-3/4" PVC pipe expander coupling. For the stand, I cut a 12" long piece of 1/2" PVC Schedule 40 pipe and mounted another 1/2"-3/4" coupler on it's end and glued that to a CD spacer, one of those clear CD's they use in CD/DVD spindle packs. To give it more support, I cut a hole in a Jello pudding cup large enough to slide the pipe through snugly and I glued that to the CD. It's firm, but you have to make sure you mount it at the center of balance, or it will fall over.

@chris13F: What is the thunderhawk made of?

This is the important question. A number of options are unsuitable for heavier models, whereas most options will work for lighter constructions.

You mentioned drilling? Is it a FW resin one then?

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Mine's made of foamboard, I wonder what it would take to build a stand for one of the old 30lb pewter ones?

Thankfully they aren't that heavy

I imagine the same principle would work for the old one as the new, nto a tonne of difference in weight.
