I have a small ork army going right now, it is the AOBR orks plus 20 shoota boyz. I am looking to add more boyz, but until I get them I thought I would try to make some killa kans. here is what I have so far on the first one. not really sure where I am going with the design, just making it up as I go. let me know what you think.

Well, it looks like a big Kan, and that's what a Killer Kan is. Orks would so build this. It still needs a GUN. You might get more street cred by putting a grot in the back or something. It seems too big for the base, but then again, so is the REAL Kan. Keep up the good work!

Thats looking a bit large for a kan. Add more weapons and use it as a dred. Looking pretty good so far though

Personaly I think the overall appearance is a bit to clean for an ork creation.
I'd consider adding more plasticard "welded plates",cables, power sources, smoke stacks and other orky gubbinz.

I think the arm looks pretty good, if you scratchbuilt that you should put that effort & skill into making a pair of robotic legs, then bear in mind the size of what you've built you're looking at a damn good deffdread, nevermind a weedy little kan!

I actually kinda like the wheels. I always imagine Mek's choosing parts based entirely on what takes their fancy, so one of them suddenly deciding "Wheeled Kans! Da next big fing in Orky-Wotz!" seems entirely plausible.

It is quite tall for a Killa Kan. That being said, consistency is not a word the Orks are entirely familiar with. Either use it as a Kan and thump anyone who complains or put a larger base under it and call it a Deff Dread.

The claw arm is fantastic and I'd put one on the other side to give it that "I'M COMING TO GET YOU!" look.

Now, the next thing you need to do is start adding random plates and rivets. Traditionally Ork tech looks like it was built with turn of the century locomotive boiler technology. Do a search on Shorpy.com or Google Images for a nice old train boiler or ship hull to get an idea of what you're going for. Then start attaching plates and rivets. The two easiest ways to produce rivets is either cut a long then strip of plastic card and then cut into tiny squares for the old steam age square head bolt look or get one of the tiny hole punches used by scrap-bookers and use that to punch out many many tiny circles and use those.

Oh, and the tiny little dragger wheel in the back? HILARIOUS.

I look forward to more pictures as you progress!

If you're gonna use wheels, I'd suggest using the ones from the current trukk kit instead of those... whatever they are. Regarding the CC arm, the claws themselves are a bit... two dimensional if you get my drift. IMO they need to be fatter on the non-blade side.

Also, Kans are smaller than what you have there.

here are some more pictures, also have a couple of questions. what size base are kans supposed to be on? I have seen them on 45's and 60's. and how tall is a killa kan? from what I have seen in the codex and on the web they are about twice as tall as a boy. mine is only 2" tall, body is 1" wide and 1 1/2" wide at the wheels. rokkit arm is not glued so when I find my magnets I can swap out the arms.

AFAIK Kans currently go on the 40mm base, which makes them look funny since they're about 55mm wide at the feet. The metal Kan model is 50mm high, not including the base, exhaust pipes or waving arms.

Errr... in Imperial units that is just a hair under 2" tall and about 2 3/16" wide so yours sounds like it's the same height, but a little narrower than the ridiculously widely splayed Killa Kan legs (seriously, does it bug anyone else that the Kan as currently sculpted is entirely incapable of actually walking?)

thanks Unistrut. I do not like the legs on the GW Kans either. I plan on building some more kans and I am messing around with some ideas for legs. I like the IG sentinal type legs, a smaller version would look cool on a kan.

If you're going with a square design, why not a refridgerator? Add some magnets and orc children artwork.

I went back and did some minor changes to the first kan. I roughed up the edges with a knife, added a new lower jaw, some more rivits and plates and last I gave him an eye patch. I thought it would help make him look somewhat meaner.

I like both versions. The first reminds me a bit of an 8-bit monster coming at you and I love it. I also like clean lines though. The second looks fine too, although I'm not in love with the eye patch as is (will probably look great painted, but I'm having trouble visualizing the end product.

Wheels look fine, leave them be. Do legs for the next couple if you really want.

Nice work!

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

I gotta say great work. I was kinda on the "blah" side when you first posted but I think they are coming along nicely.

I am in the process of making some Kans and it really seems to be a pain to get them that small.

Again great work.
