I liked Malekith quite alot (IMHO Nagash the sorcerer was better) but the latest novel in the Sundering trilogy by Gav Thorpe is a step up.
I had difficulty putting the book down. Lots of action, fleshed out a great character with minor info in the rulebooks and really helped to show how quickly the HE lands degenerated.
I did get a 'robin hood' vibe a couple of times but the linking of previously seen scenes from a different perspective, the introduction of still present characters in WHFB and how the DE managed to get so many damned warriors to fight the rest of Ulthuan.
Can't wait for the third book, which as it should be covering 'Phoenix' will be about Caledor.
Cudos to Gav Thorpe who has delivered another excellent book.
9/10 Because there are a couple of clunks towards the end, and the ending just, well ends....

Ollanius Pius - Savior of the Emperor

Agreed, Waagh.
I loved the description of the Shadows too.
I mean, enchanted bear pelts? That gives them the guerilla/huntsman feel I've always imagined--rather than those stupid silk cloaks.

It is a fine read, best book he's done IMO.
Third in the series is called, and about, "Caledor".

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
