so it is time i had wrote some fluff for my new army
it has been a while , so it may not be good , but im merely writing this just to get some idea of where im going with these iron warriors (note unless youve seen the tempus fugitives campaign books, you might have some trouble identifiying several of the tanks etc)
anyway onto the fluff

ear deafening explosions , it has been and possibly always will be surronding sargent gladius of the iron warriors for he had known war for practically his whole life , an pure olympian like many of the others in the legion , he had passed the trials with many in the squads that had made up the 17th grand company that were now hammering the iron hands , salamanders and ravenguard sent along with his legion and many others by the emperor of man himself to bring horus and the other traitor primarchs back , and punish them for there heresy against the imperium of man , but alas this was not too be , for horus had corrupted many other primarchs along with the ones who immediately joined with horus when he planned and then virus bombed istavaan v , most notably petrubro had joined him along with the majority of his legion , the others on garrison on the worlds they had orriginally captured in the name of the emperor during the great crusade....

suddenly an ravenguard , surprised by the swiftness of gladius's squad turned round , bolt pistol ready to fire , chainaxe roared up , charged at gladius himself , who quickly blocked with his powersword , to which was knocked out of his sword hand onto the ground , suddenly the fear of death fell into him , and in pure adrenaline based fear smacked the ravenguard with his bolter and proceeded to fire several bolter rounds into his head.

reclaiming his sword he swiftly moved on searching for his next victim , he soon found it as the raven guard , salamanders and iron hands were being pushed back , the three legions being hammered by the fury of the legion of petrubro and allies of horus , jumping at the chance as an iron hand was near , firing bolter rounds and falling back , gladius quickly jumped onto him , like a man posessed , this lapdog of the false emperor he was killing he thought to himself , while fighting with him to plunge the sword where his armour is weakest and end the fools life , was a follower of a so called "god emperor" who cared nothing for the lives of soldiers , but for his own glory and that of his empire , carved from the darkness of the galaxy inhabited by twisted xenos and heretics who assualt from within. That is how you kill a loyalist dog he thought as he decapitated the head off the iron hand , "wheres your petty emperor now" he thought to himself as he realised that in war everyone suffers just to spread the glory of a dictator.....

Its good.... Its very good but lacks depth its killing killing killing and little else.

I would have intercened flash backs to his loyalist years and use them as a stark contrast to the butchery that was going on... I would have made it very disturbing as many of the marines on Horus's side actually revulsed at killing their brothers it was over time as chaos claimed them that the killing became easier and easier and easier.

Put this angle in and it will be gold I just dislike the idea that they were frothing nutters from the word go...

i was originally planning to do a large amount of fluff in one post but i had ran out of ideas , anyway my next fluff post will have a lot more flashing back and what he was actually doing leading upto the siege of terra and beyond

ok so i had a quick flow of ideas into my head
so the fluff will continue

"After Istavaan"
Gladius had never been a butcher , infact contrary to the butchery he committed during the drop pod massacre , he was a rational man , only fighting when he needed to to a degree , or atleast this was how he was before he was initiated in the trials of olympia.

"the trials of olympia"
Gladius had joined like many of his kin , eager to help petrubro fullfill his need to join in to the great crusade, he was expecting an honourable and easy trial but instead , he faced bloodthirst and war , for petrubros iron warriors were amongst the deadliest seige warriors in the galaxy , much like their primarch , and knowing that the populace of olympia was weak , petrubro wanted to give them the toughest training anywhere , therefore , 10 randomly selected recruits were placed in groups , expected to show that even with the element of surprise against them and equipped with nothing , that they were a determined, resourceful, and organised force that they were like a hammer blow that could not be blocked , a shell that could not be avoided , a deadly steel rain of iron from which no foe could escape their wrath . In their groups they were pitted against other groups , expected to deal with any situation , even his so called brothers turning against him and an anticipation for any threat and to be able to use anything they could find to deliver the iron hammer blow to the enemy,in those dark months of training , gladius was shaped into a tool , an instrument of war , for this is what the emperor needed and what petrubro expected of his iron warriors , as there could be no oppurtunity for weakness in his ranks , for that could undo all that the emperor was striving for in his great crusade,

After the months of training gladius was finally promoted to battle brother , quickly gaining the ranks and known for his ferocity the iron warriors were famed for , as he was amongst the latest and ironically the last recruits of the iron warriors legion in the great crusade , therefore he had seen so much blood shed , including several "friendly fire" incidents as the stress of the countless seiges got to some of the iron warriors , including the previous sargent in his squad , 199 years into the great crusade and several years before the coming heresy , gladius had to deal with the sargent , as the stress of countless seiges , of thunderous explosions , titans firing shots that devastated cities and destroyed hundreds of thousands of innocents in a fury that was unmatched by anything , even the primarch angron of the world eaters , this finally broke his iron will , the sargent turning on his squad like a ravenous madman possesed of an iron fury that surpassed even that of the ork hordes , proceding to cut down the rest of the squad until it was gladius and gladius alone , jumping on him like the beastmen of bereatha ,gladius desperate, pulled out his combat knife plunging it into the weak chest area of the sargents mark 4 power armour he quickly pushed him off , and like an untamed tiger released from its iron cage and let loose , picked up the sargents sword plunged it into his chest , straight through one of the former sargents hearts , and unholstering his bolt pistol he had kept, aimed it at the pleading sargents head , pulled the trigger ; the boltshell plunging through his eye like a meteor burning through the sky ; detonating on impact as it had found its target; gore covered gladius's mark 3 armour , "in war all are a potential threat " gladius thought as he quickly pulled the sword out , and horrified fell to the ground , seeing what he had done , he had been like a madman , on par with those of the world eaters and blood angels legions....

thinking back to it on the course to istavaan , gladius wondered if he was doing the right thing , was following horus and betraying the emperor really the right thing , he could understand the hatred that petrubro , he and many of fellow legionaires felt towards the emperor and the lackies of the imperial fists , for the iron warriors had time and time again participated in some of the worst seiges of the great crusade along with the imperial fists , and even though fullfilling more objectives and delivering the blow needed for victory ; they were never rewarded , rogal dorn a name that resonated a burning hatred of the iron warriors took all the pleasure of the victory , he was weak fool that should be cast down and broken into the wind , it was so called "primarchs" like him and roubute guillaman who were weak and led to the deaths of many innocents , for the iron warriors could not hope to achieve the easy victories the other legions had , it was surrender at the start or total annihaltion for all and any that the other primarchs had led petrubro to doing , and some even say that this was the start of the iron warriors path to darkness and terror that they had treaded so long ago , "it was true he thought the path to hell is paved with good intentions"........

This is more like it.

I like how you go back to the trials of Olympia and the segregation and pride that was instilled into the Iron Warriors and how the Legionaires were used as nothing than an extension in a Galaxy wide sibling rivalry that went way out of control.

I like the way that you now refer to Gladius saying

"Rogal Dorn a name that resonated burning hatred of all the Iron Warriors" It really accentuates that Pertrubo used his sons as a manipulative tool against Rogal Dorn as his hated brother all in all this is much better I love it!
