Okay, so I have been playing 40k for years and a little while back my gaming group decided to try out fantasy. That, sadly, fell through. Now, my group thought about jumping back in to it again. We all decided on making basic 1k pt lists and to see how we like the game. Any ideas on what I should be fielding in a simple 1k dwarf list? I ended up getting 3 halves of battle for skull pass so I have a ton of basic guys but nothing fantastic... Are Command sections that important? Did I put too many runes on my hero for this points set?

This is my list so far. Any and all help would be great. Thanks!

At 1000 points, I think you'd be better served with thane than a runesmith. 4 dispel dice isn't too shabby at that stage. Also, I think a greatweapon would be a better bargain than the runic weapon you have right now.

I guess if you're using BFSP, you're probably stuck with all thunderers instead of a few quarrellers, but if you had the choice, I'd convert a unit over to pick up some points.

An engineer's not a bad choice, but if you can find the room for a rune of forging, it's really, really great.

Warriors really do a lot better with numbers- they need 'em to do much, as they're not great at killing, but I'm not sure what to recommend because I don't know what you have model wise. If you can get one up to 19 models, then it'll be at a full 4 ranks with your thane.

I guess that's about it for now- like I say, I'm not sure what flexibility you have with model selection.

Good luck!

Seeing as tonight was my first game I tried out a separate 500 point demo game. I definitely agree that a Thane is better suited for the dwarves, especially at small points. Maybe later on down the road using the runesmiths would be nice but for now I think I want to concentrate on my core choices.

I think my main battle tactic will be gunline augmented with warmachines...mainly bolt throwers. They just seem to do the trick. I also am not fond of those guess weapons. Plus getting 2 warmachines for the price of 1 is not too shabby.

So here is my second attempt at 1k dwarves. Bear in mind, I'm still really new at fantasy...I will be using cannons as proxies for my bolt throwers until i get them.

Have you taken 6 bolt throwers here? Wow.

Bear in mind that you cannot have more longbeards than standard warriors unless your army is lead by a Dwarf Lord, so you'll have to tweak that. Also, a Rune of Fury on its own really isn't worth it IMO. You either need something else to go with it (like cleaving) or just go with a GW.

I'll second Red_Zeke here, wow. 6 bolt throwers brings to mind the phrase "don't put all your eggs in one basket". I understand wanting to dominate one phase of the game, but I am pretty sure you would still be able to do that with just 2. Bolt throwers are nice, but you only get one shot with each and it still suffers from -1 at long range. If your opponent has anything that can reach your back line fast, you will be screwed. Once they hit one, they will be protected from any further shots until you can get your warriors over there, and yes they need to be warriors instead of long beards. I think I would cut out 4 of them and go with another unit of warriors then you can keep your long beards.

Yea I think I just got over zealous in my old 40k spam mentality. Thanks guys. So 2 units of warriors, 2 bolt throwers, and notch up my thane. That should work a lot better and still help to watch my flanks from cavalry.

I don't know the points off the top of my head, but you may be able to take one unit of warriors and one unit of long beards and still stay in your 1k limit.

God call. Also, If you dig up the points, engineers are a great investment on bolt throwers.
