Ok so when everyone started freaking the previous two times about that BoLS virus that was krackin... I had been on the site plenty of times and never got it... however a day or two ago I went on (I havent changed any settings mind you so nothing should be different) and got the pop up saying "You got a virus click here for your scan" (or w/e it says.. something like that) now from bad experience in the past, even touching that little box, including the exit out button, it a horrid idea as it still triggers it, so i do what I would normally do when this thing pops up, I open Windows Task Manager and close it from there including IE and normally I get away free, running a virus check afterwords for safety... however this time something happened, virus scanner showed one thing, it couldnt cleanse it, it couldnt delete it, so i was forced to move to quarantine... ever since then, I get random "Sorry this program is not responding, send or dont send microsoft a report" or w/e... usually the box that comes up when a program doesnt respond and you have to click end now... This happens every once and a while on IE and I cant open a Music player or Video player without it automaticaly comming up...

Any suggestions? This does not seem very virus like from my past experiences so Im not sure what to do...

Alright, did it do what I described? Cause Ive never seen a virus that does nothing but close your programs at random... Ive noticed it does it at random and on certain things more than other... such as when I open a PDF, if I try to do certain things it closes.... when Im watching videos on youtube it seems to do it more often... its rather annoying, although it auto recovers my tabs on the internet

running your AV in safe mode will help. I can't diagnose a virus blindly over the internet :( (it appears my sig is now passe)

Strangely, I'm having no issues at all with BoLs.
Could have something to do with the ad and pop-up blockers I use with FF.

Had this last week. Wouldn't let me open most programs or task manager. Stupid anti-virus wasn't detecting anything. Finally reloaded to a restore point and voila! it was gone.

The only way to be sure is for the BoLS to be destroyed with magnets, then fire. That or they need to have yet another critical look at the companies who advertise on their site.

Mac users are going to be shocked when theis pretty little fantasy land of theirs comes crumbling down around their heads, as they realize Macs aren't immune to the threats of hackers.

Of course we're not. But thats like saying people in new york will wake up someday and realize tornadoes can still hit them. I mean, it's true. The get a few. But nothing compared to the competition which lives in tornado alley. Unix based operating systems take a good amount of work to write virus' for, and they have far, far far fewer vulnerabilities to be exploited. But then you probably don't know what a memory buffer overflow is.

Thank you for supporting my point that Macs aren't immune to viruses in spite of your initial comment of:
ShumaGorath wrote:As a Mac user I am immune.

Good to know you now realize and admit you were wrong about that bit.

ShumaGorath wrote:

Few =/= none

S'all I was saying.

I mean, like your point with tornadoes, just because the Rams don't win much, you can't say they never do or will.

I agree that Macs don't have as many viruses that target them... but that's the point I was making from the get-go.

BTW, you're right. I don't know what a memory buffer overflow is. I'm willing to admit when I don't know something. Unless, of course, it confers immunity to Mac's, it doesn't matter.

Eric

We return you, now, back (on topic) to your regularly scheduled BoLS thread.

We just did this GG. You really gonna start it again? I know significantly more about computers than you do.

I suppose that's possible... it would be the height of arrogance to imagine one knows everything. Of course, cataloging vulnerabilities and doing pen tests and digital forensics for a living does somewhat make this in my area of expertise.

If you think your little BSD hand me down kernel is your juju against the bad guys... think again. As recently as 12/30/2009 there were remote code execution vulnerabilities present in java for Mac. Let's not even go into Firefox, Quicktime, or any of the other CVE items that just got patched in December. If you think that the russian mob doesn't have an armful of zero day vulns for your OS you are sadly mistaken.

So you just did one of the refreshing back to when your computer was last working fine? That was actually what I had planned to do next so Ill give it a go... thanks for the input...

And as said before can we please not start a mac/pc debate >.<

Actually, can a mod lock this until I see if this works? I suppose if it doesnt I can ask for it unlocked for more suggestions?
