Here is my trygon for my hive fleet which I've started. Pretty simple scheme using Devlon mud has the primary shade. Some highlights then red glaze to complete the table top job. I have a test fig done which I based the scheme on and will carry through the fleet.

That is awesome, very impressive. Only thing is I'd like to see the mouth looking a bit wetter and more dribbly... how about a bit of gloss varnish on the tounge?

Lovely sculpt, and a gorgeous paint job, very natural and realistic. With my local GW staff took this amount of effort on the hive fleet there painting up at the minute, but by god i love that scheme the more i look at it

Oh god, you made it a Trygon, but used the Mawloc tail bit! You've ruined it!

Oh a slightly more serious note, since you've gotten your hands on one and gotten to assemble it, how far up could you point the head? How far if you removed excess head carapace?

Amazing paintjob...I do however second the post about the base needing more. With a model this good the base should stand out more too.

Regardless, great work!

That's a simple paint job? Jesus, I don't think I want to see what you call complex.

The base does need a bit more, maybe some baby nids or something.

It is sprayed w/ a khaki color primer. Krylon Ultra Flat Camoflauge paint from Walmart. Then wash of Devlan mud. Clean it up w/ a matching acrylic Khaki. In this case Vallejo Model Color Med Grey (a brownish/grey). Highlight by adding a touch of White.

OK.. I'll see what comes up. Any other suggestions? I was looking at dead grass as well.

I was actually considering some spittle being pulled between the teeth using an epoxy. Not sure I want to take it that far yet.

Brilliant greens on the carapace, what colors did you use?

Reaper Master Series Jungle Moss 09082
Devlan Mud Wash
Reaper Master Series Jungle Moss 09082 to recapture color except recesses
Vallejo Model Color RUssian Uniform 94 or 924 Streaked
Vallejo Game Color Camouflage 31 (inside the Russian Uniform streaks)
Reaper Master Series Moldy skin 09149 ( inside the Camouflage streaks, and shorter)

Probably quite a ways if you remove the back part. Can I ask what you intend to look up at?

That's a simple paint job? Jesus, I don't think I want to see what you call complex

Simple b/c it is just base coat, wash and some quick layers on the carapace. Very clean, no real blending. The model was finished very quickly. Most of my 40K stuff is painted to a table top standard but executed cleanly. Never under estimate a good color scheme in making a simple paint job look great. There is a reason even for the red base b/c it is the complimentary to the greens and serves to further accentuate the model.

This is a bit more complex.

I intend to make some Tervigons out of the kit, and plan to move the body more parallel to the ground, so angling the head in such a matter would merely have it looking forward.

...Ok I just completely misread that as dead Grans... I had this image of a base strewn with twisted zimmer frames and a pale blue rinse lying at it's feet... I really should wait until I'm more awake before I start reading threads on here....

Wow, very nicely done. I may have to try that carapace style on something.

Just one thing, the teeth could use a little more blending. There's a very obvious line in that second pic that I saw right away.

i think the base is fine as is as it leaves all of the attention on the model.
it also looks like an area that has been scoured clean by the nids...

Very nice Trygon. Love your work on the green. This is getting me stoked to work on one or three myself.

As far as the base, there so much realestate it could use something themematic. The wreckage of a common enemies vehicle, some generic battlefield debris or maybe some more foliage (dead or dying limbs, tree trunks, etc).

I used the exact same spray for my nids. That stuff is awesome. I found GW khaki to pretty close also, close enough to do cleanup with. I'll have to try the Vallejo color though. I wish the GW washes were out when I started my army as that devlan looks really nice (went with wood stain instead).
