My store offers 15% off for any pre-orders. Right now i have the codex, venomthrope, and a trygon ordered. My girlfriend said she was going to buy the venomthrope but instead is going to buy me the trygon. So i have a little bit more christmas money to buy stuff with. I am posting this to try to figure out what i should do with the 60 or so dollars i have left. But first! i need some questions answered! I would love to cash in on the pre-order deals, so i am swayed by the new models and conversion projects that are going to be in the new book.

Q: is the Venomthrope a viable option? Explain:
I support the venomthrope, here is my argument:
-Zoanthrope profile, 3 Wounds, Type: Inf costs bit more than SM's Land Speeder
- Poisoned attack 2+
- Armed with Lash Whips and Toxic Miasma
- Grants 5+ cover save, defensive granades and enemies wishing to assault counts as moving through Difficult terrain. This ability applies to any unit with model within 6"

That will greatly benefit a swarm army when fighting in an open battlefield, which will also protect MC's!

Q: Does the Harpy seem like it could be built from a Trygon body? What role does it fill, and is it a viable option?

Q: Would purchasing a second Trygon be a wise choice? I plan to build 2 tervigons, and according to rumors a trygon model is needed along with a carnifex model. I currently have 2 carnifex. If i do use certain parts of the trygon to made a tervigon i plan to make two trygons anyway, with creative modeling.

Q: i have about 60 gaunts, i want a true swarm list, should i get more? if so how many, including the amount i would need or two tervigons pumping out gaunts.

Q: I know gargoyles are the in thing right now, and the new models are great. But, are all these options better than buying them? As mentioned above i want a swarm list, would these fast moving swarm creatures be a useful addition?

Q: I can get either a used carnifex or hive tryant for $30 each, do these deals trump all of the above ideas?(the fellow gives me almost all of the bits that come with the kits, so no issue with not having the weapon in order to form a brood)

If it helps, i also have a list of what i currently own:
70 gaunts
26 genestealers
7 ripper bases
8 warriors
3 biovores
1 zoanthrope
4 gargoyles(missing a lot of parts)
1 hive tyrant
1 old one eye
1 lictor
1 death leaper
1 ravener
2 carnifex

thanks for the help in advance!

take carnifexes, make tevigons ???? profit etc etc( I made mine by just using scything talons on all the points where an arm or leg would be no trygon needed)

use their FNP for other units or march themselves up there with it

I'm doing a swarmlord/hiveguard with tevigons flanking for a nasty surviving CC unit

get more zoanthropes and figure out your pods

also drop podding gaunts has turned out to be fun for me but with tevigons your going to need more gaunts...ebay is much more your friend than 15% off LGS.

Oh... use doom podded in your army... doesn't matter if you mod a zoanthrope or proxy just use doom... he's very useful agenst anything that isn't a vehicle

For $60 you could order three hive guard.

or get a second trygon box.

Either of those would be my suggestion.

Please check out my current project blog

Feel free to PM me to talk about your list ideas....

If the investment in models now is something that will impact your ability to obtain more models later, my advice would be to wait until you have the codex, you/the internet are able to dissect it a bit, proxy a few games, and make your decision based on experience and play testing.

Or...if you are starting nids from scratch, can you pre-order the new battleforce? All those troops are going to be needed.

EDIT:

I'm a moron.

For some reason i don't like the hive guard, don't know why but they just don't strike my fancy :/

I've heard nothing but good things about gargoyles, what if i were to buy two boxes of them to make a squad of 20?

The only real good thing I've heard about gargoyles is that they are cheap, flying and have a Str 4 shooting attack (6s to hit autowound - eh), but where they can get real nasty is combined with the Tervigon's catalyst power to give them Feel No Pain. Increases their survivability alot.

I agree though - I wouldn't go out and buy a whole bunch of new models till the book comes out. Nothing says all the internet rumors are correct.

Note - if you are converting a Tervigon, the book says you can make one out of a carnifex and trygon. If your that bent on following the book, go ahead and spend $100 for 1 model. Otherwise - I would just buy a carnifex and add on bits from other models you have. For that much, your getting into the forgeworld prices.
