I'm playing with an empire army with a few units of gunmen, and they have a marksmen with a Hochland long Rifle.
I'll be playing against lizards tonight.
Can I snipe the priest on the giant dinosaur thing?
Or is it only usefult to shoot individuals in units.

Yes, you can shoot the priest off the Stegadon.

No, it will still be randomized like Bubboes or Rule of burning Iron is...You can pick out a specific model, but an Engine is one multi-part model.

Except the Hochland, like the O&G power, can specifically pick out a single component of a multipart model.

Just checked the rule...Cool...Didn't know that
The question is, do they get the +1 to hit for shooting at a large target still?

I don't think so, since you are shooting at a (granted, very specific) normal-size figure instead of the 'large target' whole. But I can't find the rules to support it offhand...

While mounted on the Steg, the skink priest has LoS from being a large target and can be seen over normal sized troops...But does he get the large target rule, or does he just benefit from it?

He is not a large target - he is a US1 character, so you end up getting the -1 for single model....

@skyth: I'd treat the priest on the stego the same as if he were on a hill, in this case. So you can draw a bead to him from (pretty much) anywhere, but he's not a large target himself.

The Rule for the Long Rifle is worded in such a way that you ignore everything else apart from the model you are trying to pick out. So if a -1 is warranted then you receive the -1.

While this could certainly work, I'd reccommend tossing 2 cannonballs in that direction every turn. Either you get lucky and kill the Priest (Engine dies) or you get lucky and kill the Stegadon (Engine dies).

Its just a matter of wording, but to clarify, when using the hochlands "pick a target, any target, bang, goodbye" rule as I like to call it, you suffer a -1 penalty for using the rule. You do not however suffer an additional -1 for firing at a single model. Range modifiers do apply however. Automatically Appended Next Post: It could be used to pick off crew members so when you randomize those cannon balls it becomes steg or preist as opposed to Steg, crew or preist
