I brought my 1500 point battle wagon list to a friends house to battle his mechdar/jetcouncil list. This will be a short report because the battle was idiosyncratic as you will soon understand.
We playtested the table quarters mission tonight for an upcoming tournament. The deployment is spearhead--a dream for my wagons and trukk. There is an objective in the center of the table worth 4 points. There are objectives in each deployment zone worth five points and two objectives in the remaining table quarters worth two points each
Simple Jack the ork's pet Ultramarine had a front-row seat!
So after stealing the initiative The wagons move off.
The eldar split up. A waveserpent with harlequins breaks left, the jet council breaks right. The falcon sits on an objective and blasts at the trukk which is saved by the kustom force field.
It's very hard to avoid the turn 2 assault from the orks. I drop the trukk mob and one wagonload on to the jet council
Another wagon heads toward the falcon
The diversified nobz hit the next turn:
After the nobz hit all that remained was the farseer.
The following round he inflicted one wound and made all of his saves. Having lost combat by one the Nobz fail the required LD 8 roll and then fail the bosspole reroll. For the next three turns the nobz, warboss, and big mek are gently herded off the table.
The orks lose and are sad
Tactical reflections:
Well my plan was to hold the middle objective and the objective in opponent's deployment zone--that would have been 9 points meaning he would have to hold the remaining three objectives for a draw--extremely unlikely given that he had only three troop choices. My opponent suggested that perhaps I should avoid the jetcouncil altogether. Indeed; however, in the previous game the nobz killed the council in two turns (four assault rounds) so I thought it would go that way with this game. Something to ponder. I have to review the math hammer but I am fairly confident the likely hood of a lone farseer defeating a squad of nobz is fairly low. Automatically Appended Next Post: P.S. anyone with potent math hammer skills want to do me a favor and give the probably of inflicting one wound on a Jet Farseer (T4) with a 3+/4++ rerollable save with (hitting on 4+):
3 S6 attacks
26 S4 attacks
12 S8 Powerklaw attacks

Ouch. Normally I have little pity for the greenskins, but that was plain wrong.
Your reflections are mostly correct. You were right to take on the jetbike squad. Just unlucky rolling screwed you that time. If you passed, there is no way that farseer could survive that many hits.
Better luck next time mate.
Cheers

I feel your pain. Playing against some Chaos Marines last night, two power klaws through four rounds of CC inflicted one wound, and a squad of choppa slugga boys killed more marines with their pistol shots than they did in the following assault. Some nights the dice are just not with you.

Is there a cure for such bad rolling? I seriously have a 33% chance to roll a 1 no matter what. I swear to you. If I hit with two powerfist attacks and need the typical 2+ to wound...I am GUARANTEED to roll a one. I don't mind losing, but when I am turned to mush because of 1's it gets a little old and I lose sight of why I spend the time and money I do to "have fun."

I feel your pain. Last week, I had a power klaw stretch of hits about 1 in 12 while needing just one wound to finish off an annoying SM captain. Couldn't do it, eventually fled and was finished off.

Yeah that was just plain bad luck (or good luck for the Eldar player), while a Jet Council is generally a good matchup against Orks (against everything apart from Nob bikers really) they really need to be the ones charging and to pick their fights or go for multi charges against standard Orks. Whenever you can charge them I would go for it, tbh you actually could well have lost the combat the first turn as well if he had allocated everything against the standard Orks, you would have lost 6 or so and you would have had to wipe him out to win the combat.

Roll more dice at the same time. You can really have unlucky streaks if you roll single/small groups of dice.. but that could well be factored by the natural way you throw them.. picking them up as being one's & the subsequent position in your hand.
Basically; Roll as many dice as you are allowed at the same time and make sure you get a really go shake & tumble in your cupped hands before you throw.. You shall thus be rewarded by statistical averages.

Hmm, just want to point out that there might be a little problem with the eldar list since harlies cant take a waveserpent. If thats actually what he ran he might want to adjust that before he takes them to a tourney.

Why does my eldar army run three fire prisms? Because the rules wont let me use four in (regular 40k). |
