Subject: 2000 Pt Tyranid 5th Ed test list (semi accurate/rumor based)

Just a couple more days until the codex comes out but based on all the rumor sources that are mostly confirmed and point values i have seen, This should be mostly accurate. My old list used to be Nidzilla CC death, but I'm adding shooting Fex's and Zoanthropes because of the changes to stats. I'm thinking mostly foot slogging however the trygon, and the gargoyles will deepstrike and the warriors will wait in reserve to pop out of the Trygons hole. Infiltrating all the Genestealers as long as terrain permits.
************List updated in reply post below*************
HQ
Hive Tyrant
Pychic Scream
Warp Scream
Unspeakable Horror
2x Pair of Scything Talons
Toxic Sac
Elite
Zoanthrope x3
Troop
Warrior x9
Deathspitter
Scything Talons
Genestealers x19
Broodlord
Rending claws/ Scything Talons
Fast Attack
Gargoyles x20
Heavy
Carnifex x3
MC Devourer
Heavy Venom Cannon
Trygon
2x Pair of Scything Talons
Toxic Sacs
I would really like to know how you would counter this list or individual units using a non-nid list. Most of the people i play with are SM players.

You probably won't see much response to this till players get their hands on the codex, so you might want to wait till it comes out to post something on the new units for a build idea.

Marines will prolly either lascannon your MCs to death and just bolter the rest or flame and melt you.
I can see marines owning this list because until the trygon comes in, they can focus on your MCs and just own gargoyles unless they risk goin into cover

Its not a bad list, but I think you have too many of your heavy hitters grouped into too large of units. The warriors and genestealers should be broken up into smaller units so you can present more targets for the enemy to shoot at, as well as claim objectives. Sure if they shoot or charge any unit they'll probably wipe them out, but then your subject to return fire in your opponent's turn. The Gargoyles as well are really too large and will die quickly without having a Tervigon or something around to give them FNP.
I wouldn't count on the Carnifixes really lending a hand in CC, as you won't be running them if your shooting with your cannons.
The Hive Tyrant is going to be a big fire magnet as it doesn't have any tyrant guard to protect it (as it's a footslogging one).
Zoans are pretty good for their points, although I would split them up into 3 seperate elite choices to create more targets for your opponent to shoot at (couple missile launchers would be several instakills).
Countering it - really just ends up being hang back and try and shoot the crap out of everything big coming across. Outflanking genestealers will help negate that, as would that power you can take on your Hive Tyrant letting one troop choice outflank as well. Would really help out with 9 warriors popping out and shooting 27 devourer shots and then assaulting.

Thanks much for the good look through Mattbranb
after looking closely at the wording at tyrant guard i can't justify taking them for the cost since there is no more wound moving from the tyrant to the guards, Just shooting wound allocations cause of 5th ed would shenanigans and retinues.
I have made some changes to the list to spread out my options like you said and make it harder for the my opponent to choose what to shoot at. I really need to playtest with the outflank a couple of times and see how much a help it is for the tyrant to get a +1 on reserve rolls.

Like your second list better - however I would still split up the zoans (for more targets), break out the Carnifexes into 2 and 1 (same principle) and drop the broodlords. You can add a couple more genestealers to each squad for the cost, and with the loss of MC and PW rules for them, they really aren't that good.
Suprised no Tervigons - those seem to be on the "in" portion of everybody's lists.

What are you smoking? It's an upgrade character with the statline of an HQ. Not to meantion it has a Psychic power that lowers the oppositions Ld and it generally eats stuff for breakfast.
