I use a mixture of tin bits, scorched earth and blood red. Blazing orange to lighten. I also use a spounge tenique to add a bit of damage armor to it. There is a tut on that on the front page. Wish I had pics to help you more. Oh a stiple brush helps too. It is an advanced tenique but for rust it is pretty basic.

Gathering the Informations.

That effect works, kinda/sorta Luna.

The *best* way to get a natural looking rust effect is either through stippling or weathering powders.

Tamiya makes a decent set of weathering powders, but the Forge World ones are a godsend. They're repackaged MIG powders.

If you want rust or any kind of effect like that...INVEST IN WEATHERING POWDERS.

I used stippling of sorched brown, then mixing up to blazing orange for the effect on this.

Check the works of Les Bursley & inFILTRATIOR. Some of the best use of weathering ive seen.

Somewhere in south-central England.

1. Spry prime the tank grey.
2. Paint red oxide on the places where you want rust.
3. Wet the places where you want rust and sprinkle on sea salt. Get some of it onto the grey too.
4. Spray the tank your final base colour.
4. Do camouflage.
5. Put the tank in a tub of warm water and scrub the salt off with a toothbrush.

Also see the Marmite weathering method in our Articles section.

This tank was done with the Salt method. (Plus a lot of extra inking and stuff.)

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I posted a tutoral vid on this a week or so ago...look below. What I would do first it paint the area silver. You can use boltgun metal or any silver metalic paint you got. Then do a black wash over it. Once you get to that step you use a weathering pigment and you get an awsome rust affect... watch the vid below... I hope this helps.
