Has anyone tried combining a platoon command squad and its infantry regiments?
If so was it successful.
35 men (command squad and 3 infantry squads) , 4 of whom have powerfists (5 if take comissar) and 8 special weapons, seems a pretty good assault unit.

Sadly this is illegal in the current 5th edition IG codex, if your using the "Combine Squads" rule. But I'm sure it would be lethal.

Yes, only regular infantry squads can combine, and for the attached commissars there is no options to get a fist...only power weapons....
Only senior officers in company command squads, sergeants in vet squads, and commissar lords can get a fist....and a ministorum priest can get an eviscerator....sadly in this edition of the IG dex fists have fallen out of favor...
@elegost..100 guardsmen in 1 squad is impossible, as only a maximum of 5 IG squads can combine..but if you say 100 men in 1 platoon, then that indeed is possible....

I've seen 50-man "blob platoons" before. They can be effective in assault against some targets but are dangerously vulnerable to others. A single Dreadnought or even an Armored Sentinel can tie one up indefinitely.

Thanks guys.
Haven't played 40k in almost 2 years and want to get back with Krieg (yes I am considering massed resin infantry) and BAs.
Need to read the IG codex more...

The ones that are built properly to include sergeants with melta-bombs and priests with eviscerators are even more dangerous and not so easily tarpitted

Platoon command squad officers (lieutenants and commissars) can have power fists as well, thank goodness. But the only survival upgrade they can get is Medic, which is a little overpriced for what it does unfortunately, so they can all be splatted a little too easily for my liking.

oops you're right..damn fine print.....and I thought my models with PF's were useless....
if you think about it, the fact that counterattack and furious charge stack now makes adding a priest with an eviscerator into a blob in a straken led army very enticing......

I use 30 men squadded together (with a commissar) quite frequently and to good effect. As with everything, you must be aware of their capabilities, or lack thereof, but that's nothing new. Being stubborn and numerous makes for an excellent tarpit and if issued with even just a few powerswords and/or meltabombs they even do kill stuff reliably.
20 men squadded with heavy and matching special weapons and perhaps a vox per blob is a very efficient way to use orders. Both variations are surprisingly resilient. I have easily held up charging Orks and then finished them off with an Ogryn counter charge, held up an Eldar Alpha strike by throwing bodies in their way and beaten back assaulting Daemons.
Last but not least, a blob of say, 20 men makes a nice bait unit.

Whoa, slow down there. Can you please give me a reference for that?
I've been working on a list using the Creed rules for my 'ultimate force' (no Ross Kemp included) but if you get the furious charge rules when counter-attacking, Straken would be so much more enjoyable to take and use. We're playing a campaign, and eventually want to have a big ol' barney with special characters on each side.
Even without the priest, just having a Commissar with powersword in a blob would make that very scary indeed for my opponent's assault troops... hitting incoming Skyclaws on a 3+ with 4 Str4 I4 power weapon attacks would be shiny beyond belief.
and my powerfists could instakill marine characters! Oh, please let that be true...

Technically you can't since FC doesn't work that way ... however GW has chosen to let SW do it ... and there in lies the problem for other armies, it is a SW FAQ not a general FAQ
oh and power fists couldn't instant kill MEQ they would be Str7 (Str3x2+1)

Mixed blessings for me then, since my only opponent is a SW player, and I'm sure he'd be of the opinion that either we both can or neither of us can. Especially now I've made my high opinion of him visible on the interwebs (hi Hawk! )
Is there an FAQ that says furious charge only applies after the PF doubling?

Well, the FAQ referred to the rulebook universal special rules thing, not a specific SW rule I believe, SOOOO...we can use the SW FAQ for reference!!!
On the rule you were asking..check page 7 of the BRB, in the box titled "Multiple Modifiers"..."if a model has a combination of rules or wargear that both add to and multiple one of its characteristics, first multiply the basic value then add the extra points"
