Subject: Tau Markerlights? DO they fire separately

So, I haven't played the Tau in a while because my Tau buddy was deployed and I'm thinking about borrowing some models to play with to see how they are.
Many units can take markerlights, but if they all fire at the same time it seems like a big waste, why give your fire warriors marker lights if they have to give the bonus to someone else?
So do all merkerlights fire first and separately or do they fire with the rest of the unit?
And where in the codex does it explain this?
Thanks!

Markerlights fire with the unit, as ALL shooting is simultaneous per unit. So you can marker light a unit with pathfinders and remove their cover save when hitting with fire warriors - as an example.

With the exception of the Networked Marker Light (on a marker light drone and sky for example). These are shot first and then can be used by the other members of the same unit. For complete rules and usage see page 29 of the Tau codex.

Correct.
You can design armies specifically to be able to put ML's in your FW squads, but to be frank, it is generally less effective than Pathfinders or Drones.

However you may give your markerlight Shas'ui a target lock to fire upon a seperate unit than the rest of his squad.
While the functionality of this wargear is debated in 5th ed every TO I have seen says that the wargear provides its effect & any mention to TPT is ignored.

Excellent, I was missing the separate entry for networked marker lights, and the target lock option is interesting.
Thanks!
