OK, i have a game coming up. The guy i am playing has s few different armies so i could be facing:

Black Templars, Tau, IG (Catachans) or World Eaters.

Here si my list so far, opinions welcome.

Chaos Lord w/ P.weapon, combi-melta

10 Marines: champ, p.fist, H.bolter
10 Marines: champ, p.fist, flamer, IoCG (in rhino)
10 marine: champ, p.sword, melta, IoCG (in rhino)

5 Chosen: 4 meltas, IoCG (in rhino)

Defiler

Vindicator

2 Obliterators

I think that is 1500 bang on. Possible changes could be dropping the obliterators and bring in either a second vindicator or a squad of havocs with autocannons and H.Bolters.

Ohhhh a semi-local and an Iron Warrior fan too!! I'm not too far from you bud, only in Cannock.

Chaos lords kind of suck. They add nothing to the army as a whole nor to the unit they're attached to. A daemon prince would be better, but you will need 2 to give dual targets.

I would drop the heavy bolter on the first chaos marine unit. You're giving a h-bolter 10 wounds before it dies and a power fist when its not close to anything. Either drop the unit and get some havocs, or give them a rhino and dual special weapons. Your marines really need dual special weapons, I would probably drop the power weapon champ as power weaps aren't that great and in total that champion is costing 45 points!

Not enough chosen. They'll do the melta job, but remember they cannot infiltrate in a transport, though they can outflank.

I would drop either the defiler or vindicator. Personaly I like defiler better, they have better side armour, longer range and can fight in close combat. Vindicators just put you closer to melta range.

I love oblits, but what I suggest will probably need to drop these.

I agree on the chaos lord. But i dont have a DP model and have to take soem sort of HQ. i will probably deploy him with the chosen for some cc punch if they need it.

The h.Bolter squad is specifially for guarding the home objective, if that's the game we play. if not i will pop it in a building for some long range fire support. Maybe drop the fist though to save soem points.

Personally i love both the defiler and the vindi....on paper. I never have much luck with either of them and i have read that vindis tend to work best in pairs or triples.

The CHosen are goign to outflank. Whichever army i am fighting he willbe bring soem armour so i'd like to try and pop it soon as. Their rhino comes with a combi melta as well for an extar opening shot.

You have a good foundation but there is a few easy mistakes to correct.
1) Chaos Lords are not that impressive and the best way to use them is with a Daemon Weapon (except for Khorne and thats twin Claws). The issue in this army is that you have noone for the Lord to ride with. This forces you to either take a 9 man CSM squad (and lose the 2nd special) or get some kind of retinue for him (Raptors, Terminators etc). With this list I'd probably just shove him in a 9 man squad.

2) You really want to steer clear of heavy weapons in your CSM squads unless you have a good reason. Dual specials is a much better buy. 2x Plasma, 2x Melta, 2x Flamer or Melta/Flamer all work.

3) Try to find the points for D. Possession on that Vindicator, it makes a world of difference.

Counts as? Chosen don't need c.c really, there role is tank busting. Only benefit would be pop a transport and then charge the survivors.

The h-bolter squad isn't points affective. You're paying 150 + points for a power fist which might not be used and using 9 bodies for a h-bolter before its killed off. If you want to do that then havocs are the way forward, probably cost cheaper and have more heav weaps.

All tanks or walkers work best in pairs, unit redundnacy you see and dual threat. As I said, I think defilers are better what they lack in strength and ap of the shot they make up with lgone range, better side armour, daemonic possession which ignores 1/3 of the vehicle damage table and can fight in combat. Vindicators don't have that....If you took just one it is easy to target prioritse then.

Outflank isn't a reliable tactic. It depends on the dice roll what turn they come in and what table edge.
