I work with lasers everyday and things have been a little show so I decided to work on some 40K terrain. Think I may buy some finished wood/higher quality wood to mark. If that works out try to make a mold and make some resin terrain pieces. Just thought I would posted them on here and see what people thought.

It must be fun to be able to use lasers all day long and be able to play with them when times are slow. Hopefully thats not too often others wise you might not be able to do it anymore.
Anyways those look really good specialy the Ad-Mech icon.

Very rarely do you see wood used in this hobby...
I think it looks great! Digging the Necron piece. Those both seem like pretty large objects though. How intricate and detailed could you get with your hardware, and are there other materials you can work with?
I agree with the above post. You may really be on to something here.

If I wanted to do something smaller I can get more detailed. The laser is basically a spot of light, in order to mark these larger objects I have to use a larger lens which gives me a larger spot. So if I go to a smaller lens I can get a finer spot and get more detailed but my total available window size for marking something is smaller. I can mark much more then wood, but wood is one of the few materials that it is easy to get multiple layers of depth on. I have cut out brass Iron Hand symbols before for my friend, both the cog and the hand symbol. Both wood and metal can be cut/marked pretty well. Plastic doesn't work as well because it melts depending on what it is composed of.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

That's fantastic!
Really feeling the Ad Mech piece, but I always loved the design since Dawn of War
That's not to say that the Necron piece isn't great as well, it's just that my tastes lean more towards ceramite-encased super-humans
Really great work, I'd be really interested to see any more work you de, as well as these pieces painted maybe?
A great little side business, as long as you avoid the IP Hammer...

Hold on we have lasers powerful enough to burn and cut stuff?....
This grossly changes my plans.
Oh, and now I want an AdMech Weather Top. Thanks a lot jerk-o. Resin Plox!

I make 40K stuff with lasers frequently.
Some examples:
Vehicle status counters
smoke markers
chaos stars
chapter symbols
customized vehicle doors and hatches
Razorback weapon mounts
dice towers
You can see some examples in my gallery (the Lamenters items) ... I'll try to get some photos up of my new Sisters of Battle items shortly.
Lasers can cut paper, soft woods (incl balsa), and acrylic well. Normal plastics that contain PVC are not good because of the HCl they produce when vaporized. Low-powered lasers can etch glass and anodized metal, but can't cut metal and will shatter glass instead of cutting it.
Disposable, do you have your designs available anywhere in SVG, AI, or Corel format?

There's a guy here who uses one of these gadgets for cutting out acrylic bits (trophies, markers, Warlord titan parts).

ghost11, I have made them in AutoSketch. If I pull the AdMech one into Corel Draw one of the inter circles is not where it is suppose to be, but the rest of the drawing is fine. But if you can use it I can provide the AdMech logo and Necron logo in dxf. format, or dwg. format.
