Subject: What is in a Point Cost? (LotD forces)

say i wanted to play a Legion of the Damned force as a legal list. Moving the elite choice to a troop choice. say i wanted the force org to look like this:
HQ: 0-1 captain, librarian, chaplain
Troops: 2-6: Legionnare Squads
Elites: 0-1 Terminator Squads, Dreadnaughts
Heavy Support: 0-1 Devestator Squads
im looking at what the 3+ invulnerable will cost me, and how it effects dreadnaughts. im looking for a breakdown for each unit choice. all other things minus the 3+ save are the same as the normal SM unit. they all get the standard LotD special rules like the deepstrike and such.
please dont bash the topic, this is for casual play, no tourneys, so im looking for input, not flaming.
thanks

So you are looking at S&P, Deepstrike, Fearless, and DS Accuracy...with out the 3++ for the 'troops'.
The cost for the initial squad will be an average of 122
With each guy after 5 being 23 points.
Special weapons will be around the 10/12/15 and the hvy weapons will be 15/17/20.
Just taking average costs between tacticals to LoTD.
I think S&P Deves are a bit OTT.
While AssTermies would be the ones with the 3++.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

thanks for your input. i know the force will be grossy expensive, and 3+ inv saves still die to mass fire, but im just looking for raw point costs.

Well, the basic Legionnaires are more than expensive enough balance wise. You probably want to base the prices for characters and and terminators around how much it would cost to have equipped them with a Storm Shield; that should give you a good idea of how much a 3+ save is worth.
For the devastators, I'm sure if you took a regular LotD squad and made it's only options the heavy weapons, but allowed four of them, your pricing won't be off. Traditionally Devastators pay more for their weapons, but because the LotD already pay so much for them, and the deepstrike rule being pretty unhelpful for a unit of their type, they should be fine as is.
I'm not sure how you want to do the Dreadnought. With a 3+ Invul as well? I can't think of any real precedent for that one. I suppose you could err on the side of caution and double its cost (you are nearly tripling its resilience).

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it. |

- chainfist
- Sgt. with power weapon
450 points
Legion of the Damned Devestator Squad
- 9 marines
