I've been seeing a lot of crap on Dakka lately.
Whether it's awful tactics advice-usually to the point where it's not even worth posting to correct the thread, or threads like
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/273490.page
(not the OP, but what the thread turned into), or yet another rant about how GW never loved you, it's just random garbage all over.
So let's stop the threads about GW being bad (do we really need to have the discussion again?), the threads about deff rollas (same as before), and the posting of gak advice in the tactics forum. And most importantly, stop acting like a bunch of children.
I come on Dakka to read about one of my favorite hobbies and relax. I don't want to see another flamewar in the OT forum or another "ZOMG EVUL POWURGAMERZ!!1!" thread.
It's a social game and a social activity. Use some of those skills, OK? Don't post like a kindergartener who just got their juicebox stolen, and think about what you typed before you hit "submit" (i.e. does what I typed make sense? Am I just trying for yet another level of internet tough guy with this post HURRR?).
Just be reasonable (and yes, I know that as this is the internet, I'm asking a lot here, but it's not really that hard).

I agree wholeheartedly. People need to realize that it's just a game and we're all here to have fun. Win or lose, GW or no GW. Powerlists of casual. As long as everybody has a good time, lets go for it.
Be supportive to your fellow hobbyists, think before you act. C'mon guys, let's try and prove to the rest of the world that we're not the social toads they think we are.

I get tired of seeing rehashes of overtly contentious topics. If you want to have the same argument over and over and over again, please have it in the OT forum.
Incidentally, this thread should probably be moved there or to Dakka Discussions. Unless you're only complaining about what you've seen 40k-wise.

I would note Iron_Chaos_Brute that, generally speaking, those who are giving bad or strange advice do not realize it's bad or strange. So asking people not to give bad advice is something of a hopeless cause to begin with and I'm pretty sure humanity in general has been struggling with that 'cure for stupidity' thing for some time now.

Too bad "culling" isn't legal, huh?
Joking aside, I don't hear people whining "like kindergartners", but egos do often flare. I agree that everybody needs to take a step back every once in a while and just take a deep breath, especially before tapping out some nasty or thoughtless response to a perceived attack. If you aren't contributing to the community/topic or asking a question, then you don't need to say anything. I have noticed a lot of spamming/bumping/trolling lately, and it gets kind of irritating. I make it a point not to say anything at all unless I actually mean it (not flawlessly of course, I have been guilty of it from time to time). But the threads that some people start, such as "Post your best pic of ----" and then just say "nice!" or "sweet!" after every post, those just cheese me off. Contribute some real criticism, or don't bother typing out a reply!

Eh, I don't mind (actually, I love) the conversational aspect of this board, FoxPhoenix135. But maybe you include that in "contributing to the community"?

I only frequent the 40K parts of Dakka, and as such have no idea if Fantasy has the same problem.

Yeah, but 3/4s of a page of garbage is hard to post against

Right, I would categorize "conversation" as you put it into two groups: either asking a question, or contributing a valid opinion about a specific point/topic. If your post does neither of these (i.e. the "nice!" and "sweet!" posts) then all they do is clutter up the forums and stoke post counts, which is ridiculous.

You know, there's always a hurricane of trouble brewing over in the AT-43 section. On a serious note, I tend to sympathize with what Thor's saying here.

I'd agree generally. I find myself exchanging inside jokes with the 40k Background crowd pretty regularly, which I feel is a big part of building the community in its own way even if it isn't exactly on-topic in the strictest sense. But I try to leave YMDC well-enough alone unless I have an argument to make (only once--and that time by mistake!). Same goes for tactics and army lists. In P&M, on the other hand, I don't mind posting some verbal drool as that is part of what people want/need to hear. If the only thing that a person ever saw on their P&M blog was "paint is too think," "trim the flash," "drill the barrels" they'd soon stop posting altogether. I try not to leave it, however, at a thoughtless "sweet!" or "awesome!"
