i'm in a fortunate position to consider purchasing the GW gaming table, i like the fact it's modular and comes with it's own storage bag but would like to throw it open to fellow gamers on the pros and cons of such a dedicated purchase. Feedback most welcome thanks.

If you can afford it then it's a great way of getting a gaming table. Add in the fact that you can get extra tiles to make it 8x4 and it is perfect. Be careful to mount it on a sturdy table when in use, in fact we use one of them on the 'tales from the maelstrom' blog sometimes.

Pros: Good table, relatively easy to paint/flock. Filler in the skulls and you're away. Extra sections available for table veriety, and ease of set up.

Cons: Cost. Can be difficult to get a lot of plonk and play scenery on those fixed hills. Filling in the skulls.

Bragging?
The cost of the Battle Boards is way to expensive, and just how much room do they take up when not in use.
I've already taken over the study, much to the wife annoyance, spare space is at a premime in our house due to the demand from kids toys.

I like mine, looks good with a few bits of scatter:

I just painted the skulls same as the rest of the board using dark umber/ yellow ochre in the kit that goes with it.

Enough paint with kit to colour my scatter scenery to match:

When not in use it all packs into a carry bag, 24" x 24" x aprox 12", easy to stash under the table and takes up a lot less room than most of my home made efforts:

You can get 3 basic variations, large centre hill, 2 long side ridges or 4 corner ridges.
For urban city fights I still use the old battle mat GW made on printed paper:

Yes it cost a lot of money but I get a lot of use out of it, and lets face it, the whole hobby is a bit of self indulgence, "because I'm worth it?" No I just get a kick out of it.

Size wise, she say's we'd find room, just need to work harder to pay for it.

We started with the Game-Board and have added home-builts since and mix and match for different looks each week, usually making a 4'x6' playing surface.
