Subject: New nids Vs SM and CSM 2000

warboss and I teamed up our new nids (He has fancy Aliens, and my nids were in a car wreck and boxed for a year.) Lots of things are missing like arms and heads, but when did that ever stop the hive mind ,right? Right. I've made a rather pleasing Mama_gant conversion I'm really proud of and wanted to try her out, even if I have poo-pooed the unit. My tyranofex conversion, however, ended in failure (I tried to glue a hive tyrant waist part under a carnifex waist part). Well the waistline for the Fex and hive tyrand are really, REALLY thin, and what was supposed to look like a Kick ass Godzilla clone, ended up looking like a Bolimic stick bug with a rhino head, googlly fish eyes, and two crotches. I named him "Starvin marvin". Luckly we used to 1000 point lists so Poor ole Starvin Marvin got to sit in the passinger seat where it was cold dark and alone, and he wouldn't cause me to be humiliated. His googlly eyes looked so sad.....
(It's 3 am and I'm holding my newborn so this is more of an overview)
My list
Basic Alpha warrior
Nine run of the mill warriors
6 Y.Genestealers
Tervagon "Mamagant" Adrenal glands, toxic glands, FnP
10 regular gants
The parasite
6 sythstealers with brrodlord and adrenal glands.
Warbosses Alien-nids
Hivetyrand with bonsword lashwhips and the power that kills when you fail leadership
3 units of rending-sything warriors
spore pod
3 spore mines
Sm army
Temi-captain
6 terminators, assault cannon
3 tac squads with plasma and lascannons
drop pod
Ironclad with hurricane bolter
Chaos
Huron
5 man Possesed
big unit of T.sons
big unit of berserkers
Defiler
Terrian was set up with 2 huge buildings taking up the left side of the board, and small scattered buildings taking up the right side of the board (the sm and csm just huged the board edge so it really didn't matter much)
Mission was dawn of war and killpoints (yay and damn it)
We got to deploy first and plopped the Tyrant, Mama-gant and a unit of Alien-warriors as close as we could to force the Marines back. Tac squad 1 took point, and tac squad 2 covered the empty leftside of the board to rain plasma death.
Turn one nids.
With a huge smile on my face I roll for her babies and get a 1 and two 5s... And she hit menopause turn one. Ah well, she at least gave them FnP. the Tyrant ran into a building, and the gants moved to cover the Alien-warriors.
Turn one Marines.
All their units walk onto the board, A tac unit and the defiler take the left flank and everything kind of huddles together in the mid. Drop pod land on the spore mine(what are the odds) and defiler walks over the rest
Tac squads sits still and rapid fire the gaunts:
Shooting Opens up on the Gants, I smile as I pic up my feel no pain rolls, and fluff them all. Mama-gant was still feeling pain from her ovaries impoding I guess. After shooting only two gants remain.
Turn two: The parisite, my unit of gants and two units of alien-warriors walk onto the board. all outflankers come in, Genestealers on the left, warriors on the right, and Y.genestealers pop up in the hive tyrant's building. everything else moves up, besides the gants who run away to preserve kill points. A unit of alien-nids drop pods close to the SM drop pod. Mama-gant puts FnP The lead unit of Alien-nids.
Assault. Genestealers buth hit tac squads. The Ygenestealers run thier tac squad off the board, the normal genestealers stay locked with a sargent.
Turn 2 SM
Huron departs from the berserkers he was hiding in and goes to hunt the hive tyrant, He manages to kill himself do to shadow of the warp. The Ironclad shoots and assaults the Ygenestealers, the get +str but can only stun it and are left with 2 models. The FnP alien-nids get shot by T.sons and charged by berserkers, Although they fail to rend FnP keeps them only to a minor loss. The defiler kills the sporepod and blasts some Alien nids that came out of it. The drop-pod Tac squad opens up on them as well and 3 aliens nids bit it over all. The genestealers finish with the Sargent.
Turn 3 Nids. Mamagant lumbers up and fires some shots into the T.sons killing one. The hive tyrants dives into the Ironclad to save they Y.genestealers and explodes it, the one lone Ystealers runs back into the building it started in. (Hibernating is better than getting your face shot off I guess) The genestealers multi charge the defiler and t.sons to tie them up, and the alien-warriors from the spore pod charge the tac squad from the drop pod, dispite needing 5 or less to stay around the tac squad gets it. The defiler gets immoblised and 3 T.sons are killed, the broodlord stops the force weapon from swinging, gut the defiler claims 2 stealers.
SM turn 3, Terminators come in and wound the Mamagant with shooting. In combat the berserkers and FnP alien-Warriors rip at each other, but the berserkers are getting the upper hand and the warriors are down to 3. the warriors in combat with the tac squad LOSE combat, and are looking at a Terminator charge next turn. the defiler and T.sons wiff and so does the broodlord, the genestealers claim 2 more T.sons and one more dies to no retreat.
Nid turn 4. Mama-gant and the hive tyrant race to the defiler, everything else is still moving up the board, bar the fleeing gants and Y.genestealer. In combat the defiler kills another Genestealer and the T.sons are down to 2. The berserker and Alien nid combat ends with one berserker left, He takes off after mama-gant. The spore pod Alien-nids win the combattac squad but they stand firm.
Marines turn 4. The berserker shoots at Mama-gant then charges in. Feeling an itch on her butt she sits down and the berserker finds out there are places far, far worse than the eye of terror. The terminators beat the Spore pod Alien nids into pulp, they and the tac squad head for Mama-gant.
Nids turn 5, Mama-gant charges thedefiler and takes off the battle-cannon. The T.sons are wiped out. everything else moves closer.
Marines turn 5, assault terminators fist Mama-gant to death(hur hur) they do find a sobbing berserker while they work. Tac squad blasts my fresh unit of gants, (who were trying to be sneaky all game) down to one.
Nids turn six. Hive tyrand hits the defiler and kills it. Terminators are shot by my warriors (who were still moving all game) lose 2 have to test at -2 (I had bein using the broodlords "aura") and break! The Parasite hits the drop pod tac squad and wiffs, they wound it and win combat.
SM turn six, Termies continue to run, parasite wins combat and the last tac squads legs it.
Game ends.
Thoughts: I've never been afraid of powerfist termies with any of my armies, but I'm not shure what nids really have aginst them
Gants- fodder, just like last edition
Parasite, ok for it's points, wish I would have remembered he had wings.
warriors, shooting Yay, armed for hand to hand Nay. too many points to get powerfisted. IMHO
Alpha warrior, the only warrior who should get a CC upgrade.
Broodlord, Ace though the lost of power wepons hurts, his powers are great
genestealers, they are just as good as last edition, but the brood lord upgrade makes them shine.
Y.genestealers, I like them hide in building, move and assault=win, never take more than 6 though.
Mama-gant, Ugh if you roll doubles first turn, you're left with a gimpy MC with crappy shooting, that costs a lot of points. FnP was nice. On the warriors, on the gants it sucked.
Next time I'll try out Harpies and the Tyranofex.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.
Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole |

the genestealers, especially the ymargyl (spelling?) variety, did the job well with their fleet/infiltrate/move through cover. they got into close combat (and except for the defilers) killed what they contacted eventually. despite some posted negative feelings about broodlords in the now closed nid thread, i like them. a t5, 3w squad upgrade that can't be singled out? yes please... as for the tervigon, i've done an almost 180 on her (although in her defense not much could survive a charge of powerfist terminators). i didn't realise she was initiative 1 and ws3... with a 50% chance every turn of sterilization... i'd still take 1 of her but not the 3 i had been planning if i ever started up a real nid army just for the extra scoring units and FNP.
as for the close combat only warriors... i need to continue finding ways of getting them into the fight sooner. if it hadn't have been for your FNP and the fact that ALL the reserves came in on turn 2 they would have gotten completely chewed up by shooting from a non-optimized force. imagine the carnage if they had been facing an all melta/misslelauncher/str8-10 ordnance army... after seeing them on the tabletop next to some real warriors, i think i'll change them to genestealers as they're WAY too small compared to the real thing. i'm limited in what i can do by my own quasi-WYSIWIG rules (i don't want to add shooting as the aliens don't really shoot people in the movies).

Great battle report.
I have an opinion on the Warriors, though. In my previous games just today, tooling a Tyranid Prime and 6 or so Warriors up with Adrenal Glands and Boneswords goes a long way (I actually had two identical squads). Terminators did squat-all seing as the warriors simply tore through them with I5 (I6 Prime), four attacks each that re-rolled on 1's and were power weapons. Great fun. Honor Guard didn't stand a chance either.
I'm definitely not afraid of the Terminators anymore - I've found my favourite Troops choice.

It should work but that unit would cost a ton. Did you give them wings or not?

I actually used this list against a Space Marine army... and obliterated them... almost completely. Sieze Ground, 4 Objectives, I ended up with 2 Objectives and One contested by my podding Zoanthropes. The Doom of Malan'tai can be a little random, but GREAT fun, seeing as it can blow up tanks pretty easily with its S10 AP1 Large Blast, as well as wipe out MeQs with its blast in the next turn (after being reduced D3 Wounds). HQ Tyranid Prime - 110 +Scything Talons +Pair of Boneswords +Adrenal Glands +Regeneration Tyranid Prime – 100 +Scything Talons +Pair of Boneswords +Adrenal Glands Troops 10 Termagants – 55 10 Termagants – 55 6 Warriors - 270 +Adrenal Glands +Pair of Boneswords +Scything Talons 6 Warriors – 270 +Adrenal Glands +Pair of Boneswords +Scything Talons Tervigon – 200 +Scything Talons +Toxin Sacs +Adrenal Glands +Catalyst Elites Death Leaper – 140 3 Zoanthropes – 220 +Mycetic Spore The Doom of Malan’tai – 90 Total: 1500 In short, no, I did not give the warriors wings, as that would have made them FAR too expensive, and non-scoring. Podding Honor Guard? No problem. DS'ing Termies? No problem. Great fun.
