Hi, Like the title say's I'm looking to build the coolest posible gaming table,
I need something that is Multi game friendly, primarley for war games but the occsional pen and paper, or even gasp board and card games.
been looking on line and havn't found much.
I'm ok with tools and can follow directions, just not that good at the design part.
Right now I use a picnic table in my basement.

Thanks in advance
Chuck

The Sultan is pure win. No plans but some interesting ideas/design features on this site.

LOL for 9k, I would build that interactive digital table instead of the sultan.

that is perhaps the coolest gaming table ever...................However if I spent 9K on a table I think my wife would use it to disect me on it......and I'm sure that would ruin the value of it

I doubt real blood and gore will spoil the grim dark atmosphere of warhammer games Might pong after a while though.

No need to pay 9K.

A lot of what you are paying for with the sultan is quality woods, fixings, finishes and labour.
How important are the aesthetics of this thing to you???
I'd be tempted to simplify the design, look how fussy those legs/inlays/corners are.
A similar table with all of the features could be made from pine, mdf, melamine, hardboard, cheaper hinges/knobs/handles,
prebought plastic boxes instead of drawers, velvet rather than baise and given a lick of paint or stain (as opposed
to laquer/gloss varnish) etc.

I reckon that for £300/£400 of materials you could have a really really nice table.

How about this? http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Game_Table_Plans

If you want to make it yourself I doubt its going to cost you anywhere near as much.

Isn't the Sultan really focused on for RPG players? For wargaming, i think I'd rather have a slightly higher table that is built with easy access in mind.

A neat idea would be to just find a block of lockers being thrown away from a business or school and build them to height, add a top. Table and storage!

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

You could make more than one level by adding removable walls round the edge and putting balconies on it to make the inside of a building, then you can lift the surface of and ad a urban, woodland or fielded area, and THEN you could lift that area off and you can have a normal surface for card games!!!

The problem is storage. You can have a slot in the side for the over boards, and you can store the walls underneath!

It would be hard to make but that would be the most versatile bored.

An idea I've been kicking around for ages is to take a thick base board (10-12mm MDF would be the best as it doesn't warp) and a sheet of hardboard (the stuff they usually stick in the back of cheap wardrobes)

Cut circles out of the hardboard in random places and then glue the hardboard to the base. Texture/paint the hardboard but don't go into the recesses. Then use the circles you cut as the bases for any scenery you make.

All your scenery will then slot into the holes without having the annoying lip you usally get at the edge of scenery that makes your models fall over!!

If the OP wants to be able to use the table as just a normal table, don't glue the holed-out hardboard in place (although if you're doing this i'd recommend drilling a small hole in each corner of both boards and gluing a dowel peg into the base. That way your hardboard will not slide off)

Good luck with whatever you build and show us pics when its done!!

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?
