I got my Codex in the mail today, and omg, to any nay sayers, I'm sorry you need to re-look at the codex.
Just absolutely amazing, been playing Nids since 4th edition and yes they've simplified some of the selections in regards to Biomorphs/Bioweapons. However, they've quite balanced out the units and with some of the new special abilities.
There is also considerable more units then what have been shown on the site (ie. New models.) So look forward to new ones coming soon, or conversions.
When I say balanced out I mean every unit has a place and seems to be useful in one way or another. And there seems to be a unit that's good against other armies....its going to be an interesting time these next few months in seeing what build types we see, but if I had to guess you're going to see less "Nidzilla" or "swarm" strict builds and more universal builds that utilize the Tyrnaids new broods and old broods in a more hamonious way then just bash and shoot, rinse and repeat. I feel they're going to take a little more strategy, which I'm all for.
Just my thoughts and man am I excited to start tearing down my units and re-structuring them. (Now I'm glad I didn't paint them yet, lol.)
Peace~ Automatically Appended Next Post: I'll post more stuff when I get home, didn't have a lot of time and I'm back at work. >_<

I must say, my severe disinterest in buying more Zoanthropes, Hive Guard, Trygons, and other new items has really made me consider selling off my army to fund my other couple of armies.

I like the miniatures, but don't play 40k's rules. From all accounts the codex is beautiful and the new models are beautiful. I'll probably grab some to paint and add to my Tyranid Horde (been playing/collecting them since the mid 90s/2nd edition).
One thing I do like about the last nid codex and this one is that it brings back a lot of the ideas from the 2nd edition nid codex. The black and white army list in the back of 3rd edition and the codex that came after that was terrible.
Yay! Devourers shoot psychic worms again!

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

I understand the hesitation, but honestly I like the fact that I now have the selection to pick from 34 different units (this does include the variants that are included with some new Nids) That's a lot more variation and variety in builds that players can come up with.
The fact that you can't easily spam MC's (utilizing Carnifex's for 85% of the list) doesn't really bother me in the slightest. The fact that you now have more choices that don't suck and allow for a different approach to how you would like to play is something I welcome.
Now you can make a lightning fast assault army that isn't weaker than a Tau FW in melee.
I mean using Raveners combined with a Mawloc is just deadly and allows for the use of in your face tactics that can really throw your opponent off base. Not to mention allowing the Mawloc to re-use its awesome ability more than once in a game is amazing. And really adds to that style of in your face play.
If you want to stand back and shoot with some heavy weapons/units we now have that ability, you can play Nid's to any style of play. And honestly if you want to play Nidzilla you still can, you just now have more MC choices instead of just spamming Carnifex's.
The points cost from what I've gathered so far seem pretty even/fair. The upgrade costs for units that have them isn't bad and doesn't really make the units overly expensive and still allows for a diverse play style.
To having to buy new units isn't really a turn off, because I mean look at every Army that's had a codex released this set there have been new units, so I think that kind of came with the territory to be honest. But I do understand not everyone has the money to shell out for an all new army. And I honestly don't think you have to rebuy everything, yes you might have to remodel/repaint old models to bring them into compliance with the new codex but unless you're trying to do that an army of 5k-10k points, I think a 1500-2000 point army isn't that hard to do a re-structure to. That's just me though.
As well, we've gained some new weapons that have decent range, again everything is Assault, so being able to move and shoot still remains one of our strongest strengths. Even our "heavy" weapons are Assault, which is awesome.
Oh also, biomorphs/bioweapons aren't gone they're just handled a little differently with some point modifications but they're still intact and still can be used. Just on some units they're not available, or are already setup with what biomorphs/bioweapons they're allowed to have.
Peace~

Got a few words for this new codex: Instant death, do you feel it bro?
They essentially turned warriors and reveners into ogryns... very sad.
I'm with RustyKnight: time for the disaffected to sell bits and bobs to the eager beavers out there, all ready to shell out cash for G-Dubs new marketing scheme (make them pay more without them realizing it).

Ogryns can at least mitigate ID via transports.

As someone who had a Warrior-heavy army before, I don't mind that they're now vulnerable to Instant Death. Something needs to be vulnerable to Instant Death in this game. Personally I'm glad of the extra wound; about time, because you really should fear heavy weapons more than small arms.

The pods + the Mawloc with Raveners just looks nasty add in a Trygon for effect and you have a really nasty wake up call for the board hoarder in your group that loves to sit back and do nothing.

Ogryns got a toughness boost to 5 and now I rarely worry about being instant deathed. there really isnt that much S10 stuff out there. Are warrirors still T4?

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake. |

So anyways, I played the new nids with my CSM. Pretty much chewed em up and spit em out. Hidden PFist crushes warriors. Biovore AP4 Barrage thang isnt that great. Hive Guards aren't very good at taking down armor 11+(rhinos, defilers, vindis). Gaunts are still scrubs, heh. The only thing that was hard to kill was the new Hive Tyrant, and rightfully so. Haven't experienced the other new big stuff, but I can't see any of it being too spectacular because of the massive point sinks involved. I'm pretty curious if the Spore Pod Deepstrike army of doom works though.

The nay-sayers were just trying to balance out the whiney people who were like "overpowered/codex creep"...not saying it's bad for the sake of it...
I think it looks balanced and decent and agree with some points with the nay-sayers, there are limitations to the list and nice weaknesses that makes things 'equal' IMO.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
