So I'm struggling to pick between which of these two lists to build towards for 1750 competitive tournament play. I like the absolute fire power of the first list, however am a little scared about its lack of psychic defence. The second list gives the defence I want, plus a handy way to deal with mega nasty units (read: Nob Bikers) with the Callidus Assasin & PBS tag team. Let me know your thoughts and critiques on these two lists, aswell as voting on which you'd field if you had the choice. Is there a happy medium between these two lists?

List One 'Gunslinger':

HQ -
CCS - 3x Plasma, Medic, Astropath, Chimera - 210pts

Elites -
PBS - 7 Pskyers, Chimera - 145pts
Marbo - 65pts

Troops -
Veteran Squad - 3x Melta, Chimera - 155pts

Devil Dog - Smoke Launchers - 125pts

List Two 'Mind Control':

HQ -
CCS - 3x Plasma, Medic, Astropath, Chimera - 210pts
Inquisitor Lord - Psychic Hood, Psycannon Bolts
Retinue - 2x Mystic, Gun Servitor w/ Plasmacannon, Chimera - 212pts

Elites -
PBS - 8 Pskyers, Chimera - 155pts
Callidus Assassin - 120pts

On an overview, I drop a Devil Dog, one Chimelta and Marbo for the Inquisitor Lord, one more Pskyer in the PBS and the Callidus Assassin. Worthwhile trade? Do I have enough guns in the first list to negate opposing psykers or not? Is the Neural Shredder/Weaken Resolve trick a little too specific for an all comers tournament?

Man I asked alot of questions, if you answer only one of them I'm majorly appreciative!

Well, I like the 2nd list with the Inquisitor.
Not sure if you need an Assassin.
I'd leave this guy at home.

Nobody other than wuesten has an opinion?

@wuestenfux - I too believe the assassin is probably a little too much, I think she'll find it difficult to claw her points back in games that don't have a high toughness 'uber unit'. Am I too fearful of Nob Bikers?

You don't need any kind of assassin in any take all comers list.

In this situation, a PBS + random shooting of your choosing is plenty to deal with nobs. All you've got to do is kill 25% of the unit and they're off the board.

Absolutely the second list, without any doubt in my mind.

Whay a devil dog? With all the melta you already have it's not necessary and it's not nearly as good as a hell hound or a bane wolf.

Fair point, bikes fall back 3D6 correct? Maybe I should put a little faith in my ammo and less in cheap tricks. If I drop the assassin that nets me 120pts to play with, for the Inquisitor and Retinue, should I be trying to keep their points cost down in favour of other units or, as I've attempted, making them more than just a portable Hood.

I can understand your point about the Bane Wolf, but I'm not really sold on the Hell Hound. A Devil Dog is still scary to infantry as it is to rolling armour, which I don't feel is the case with the Hell Hound. Care to persuade me?

Thanks for the replies all.

NEVER EVER UNDERESTIMATE A CALLIDUS ASSASSIN.

I used to run one in a SM army and at 120 pts you may think its expensive but then remember if you charge her at anything apart from chaos space marine and genestealers the neural shredder works wonders plus the whole no saves at all in combat, if you add up the plus points against the negatives this little assassin will earn its points hands down

Melta vets in chimeria will do your AT proud. I'd drop the vendettas for valkyries. I'm not sold on the PBS, but with the assassin choice you've taken they do make sense. Hell Hound is awsome for crowd control. You can place the template almost horizontally so you can cause a lot of wounds. The devil dog doesn't answer the same question and it scatters.

The way I see it, if I don't run the PBS, the Assassin becomes less effective. I'd only really run them in a pair. Marbo has proved his worth to me in my last couple games (even if I use a SW captain model proxy!) killing 16 Boyz piling out of a Wagon in my most recent, I'll be looking to fit him in at whatever cost.

My only issue surrounding Valkyrie's and Hell Hounds is that they really can't kill enemy vehicles. Whereas the Vendetta and the Devil Dog can, if they so please, kill infantry. Obviously not as many as the first two, but without trouble they can switch roles. That's my only qualm.
