Can anyone tell me the best way to use simple green to strip paint from plastic and metal models?

According to the owner of my local game store, simple green melts plastic. But about metal he just says to take off the base and just kinda let it soak. I've been trying it out over the past few days so I'll let you know how it works after work...

It DOES NOT melt plastic.
I have used simple green many times to clear off test pieces on both metal and plastic and have never seen it melt plastic.
Like crazythang said just put some in a bowl or tupperware container and let it soak. I would say at least overnight, although I have left models in it for up to a week with no damage.

You don't even have to dilute the solution. Just put the fluid, right out of the bottle, and it works very well. I have used it to clean really BAD SM from Ebay, and it works very well.

No damage.

No detail loss.

It takes care of primer even.

I've been using simple green to strip my smurfs, simply take a whole bottle of Simple Green pour it strait into a seal-able container and add the things to be stripped into nurgles bubble bath, let sit for two days or so. return and attack with toothbrush. Admittedly I have seen some parts of the minis get rougher on some parts but I think that's a residue from the simple green, dissipates after a coat of primer.

I might resort to mineral spirits on the metal items.

I have used that before with good results.

Well I soaked 5 vehicles for about 4 days and they cleaned up fine.

They kinda smell like simple green though.

The thing is that the simple green will go through one layer of paint at a time. The vehicles were bought used and I was amazed at how many layers of paint I found.

I would think one day soak per layer would be plenty.

My brother waters down the Simple Green (I think). Glad to hear that it's working for you, though.

Simple green doesnt melt plastic. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

But the BEST way to use simple green, is to throw it away, and buy CASTROL SUPER CLEAN! Autozone/Walmart. Under $10 and lasts for ever. Works on BOTH metal and plastic. Its WAY better then simple green, and has been proven many times on this site.
