Hi,

Is there any use for a large unit of Treekin? I noticed that in the unit entry it says they are unit size 3-12. 12 Treekin would cost 780 points! Could it be used for victory point denial? I don't think they are allowed ranks... I'm not even sure how you would deploy this many Treekin. All in a line, or 3x4 / 4x3?

Anyway, I just got the Wood Elf codex and was reading through it, so I was curious about that

Cheers,
Steve / RiTides

Hmmm...

Well, 12 Treekin can get 1 rank bonus, if you put 2 ranks of 6 or something similar.

I'm no expert on deathstars, but I don't think Treekin would make a very good deathstar. I mean, it's a steep investment for a unit that can be potentially easy to bait and destroy.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

You're right... it's probably just one of those things.

I think I'm going to try out 2 units of 4 and see how they do that way

It's rumored that 8th edition will enable the ogre sized guys to get ranks easier, but it's still very likely that big units of big boys are a terrible idea even in 8th. At least they are currently, so go with multiple units of 3-4 instead of big blobs.

Run them as 3 or 4.

3 if the enemy has no shooting and 4 if they do so you can get into combat and still put out enough attacks.

I lol'd. But anyway, I don't think you'd do well to cram all of those big, costly units in one place. You're just asking for them all to get annihilated at once.

4 is 'large enough' for Treekin as it stands, for me at the moment.

A unit of 4 can be placed in a line, so they get the maximum 12 attacks in the front or rear but have a weak flank, or 3 in the front and 1 behind giving a weaker front, much weaker back but slightly stronger flank (2 models).

I think the 4 across is the most useful.
