Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let Dakka know that Army Dice has moved. The new site is
www.customgamedice.com.
More importantly the dice selection has doubled and if you can't find the right dice we can still make custom dice for your armies.
Also check back soon for the upcoming Die of the Month. Each month there will be a new die design, at Army Dice regular prices, made for a one month limited time only.
Now back to your regularly scheduled program...
Cheers,
Scott from Army Dice

I'll be paying attention to the die of the month when February hits! The "Mo Dakka" is tempting I wish there were some fantasy-oriented dice, though (hint: wood elves...)
Edit: Wow, the custom die page looks really affordable! I might have to consider that... a cool tree in place of the 6 maybe...
Cheers,

One point of critique that isnt a big deal but worth mentioning.
The site looks spare in design as well as conent. Dsign, no biggie, but there is some thing content wise that could be clarified.
Do you offer different sized dice?
Exactly what dice do you offer? Or are the consumers just expected to refer to the Chessex site in order to know what dice colors/designs are available?
Do you offer square cornered dice? And if yes, what color can the consumer expect of these dice?
Do you offer dice that have numerals engraved instead of pips?
If not, can a customer request a design for each facing of the die?
If you really want to make money at this, there is a huge market outside of the wargaming community that would love to take advantage of such services. Boardgames put miniatures wargames to shame an many of them not only want but require dice that have special characters on them in order to play their games. Not just to pimp their games up, but as replacements as well.
Just some thoughts to consider as these questions were the very first things I thought of when seeing your site (both old and new) and they came immediately to mind.

I was also going to ask if a custom order of dice can be made in two different colors, or if that costs extra?

They are chess-ex dice pure and simple...they roll like chessex dice and if your putting a big design on the 6 your going to affect your odds (I know I own a set)
Your paying him for his designs, which are quite well done.
Call chess-ex and you can get your own dice made if you feel like making dice yourself. I got a great flur de lie design after a 10 min call.
His price's per dice have minimal markups and if your not artistically inclined at all this is a great deal.

All of my dice are 16mm. I am able to make larger dice for the same prices listed for my custom dice.
Hellfury wrote: Exactly what dice do you offer? Or are the consumers just expected to refer to the Chessex site in order to know what dice colors/designs are available?
The list of colors is too large to keep it online and easily viewable. When making custom dice I ask for your two most desired colors (usually your army colors). From that I recommend dice colors to best match. This seems to work out the best as it saves time and unfortunately the images on the Chessex site are not that great for discerning detail.
Hellfury wrote:Do you offer square cornered dice? And if yes, what color can the consumer expect of these dice?

These options are available. Not many people ask for either of these so I make no special mention of them. I would assume if this was particularly important then when sending in a custom die request it would be mentioned.
Hellfury wrote:If not, can a customer request a design for each facing of the die?
This is also possible, although it is much more expensive.
Thanks for your questions, I hope my answers were adequate. I'll take note of these and probably be adding them to the Army Dice F.A.Q.
R3con wrote:They are chessex dice pure and simple your paying him for his designs, which are quite well done.
Yes that is correct. And thank you. I started this for my own armies and found other people wanted their own dice made as well, I'm glad people like what I have made.
Cheers.

If its a bigger design on the 16's with rounded I'd make sure its on the 1 not the 6......

Actually its the other way round that works best. For any ordinary dice the 6 side already has the most material removed from it. For my dice (and chessex custom dice) the etching itself is more shallow than the pips. This ends up meaning that the amount of material removed is roughly equivalent to the six side of a standard die.
Not to mention the aesthetics are far more appealing. For most of these games rolling higher is better. You don't want to see your army icon when you fail a roll, you want to see it when you succeed. Cheers.

Is there a way to estimate to make sure that you remove about the same amount of material? I wouldn't want to affect the odds either way...

Yes I suppose it could be done to measure the difference in volume. My point was not a scientific one though, as every custom design is going to cut a different amount of area. The point was if you are going to make custom dice its best to use the six side as it is the most amount of material removed from a die anyway and also benefit aesthetically for games where the highest number result is considered a success.
I've made posts before about statistics and perceptions of die rolling. It boils down to these games don't involve the numbers of rolls necessary to show to statistical analysis and any die not made for casinos is considered a non-precise die.

Thanks, shartamatau!
I'm seriously considering placing a custom order, but I have to see how much money I can raise toward the army I'm looking to buy first. I won't clog up your thread anymore, but hopefully I'll be contacting you in February with an order
