The supposed 'real' pics of this (as opposed to the obviously computer-generated ones) look faked to me.
Just a thought.

You are thinking about the Gotha 229 flying wing. Only a couple prototypes were made and although it was not done as a true stealth plane the designers were experimenting with charcoal mixed in the paint to reduce radar signature.

actually yes I heard about this last week in a military history class, the modern stealth bombers are based off its design with better stealth tech of course
It used a charcoal based paint to block/confuse radar, and looking through it, it was very effective for the radar of the time
it had a high bomb capacity, around 1,000kg worth I think and was powered by a jet engine
They never made an effective prototype, since the designs were made near the end of the war, and at that point the allies and soviets had bombed or taken most of the german resources out

Yeah, the Gotha 229 pretty much sums up everything that was wrong with Nazi weapons development. They were building a high end strategic bomber that stopped production when the Allies over-ran the production site. By the time the other side is advancing over your homeland you've probably got a lot bigger problems than a shortage of state of the art bombers.
The Germans had incredible engineering skills but their weapons priorities were, thankfully, dreadful.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something. |

Not enough, perhaps we should use the gas of peace on them. Automatically Appended Next Post: Albatross wrote:The supposed 'real' pics of this (as opposed to the obviously computer-generated ones) look faked to me.

I will buy that, if we only had these pictures it is possible they were intented to be leaked intentionally at the time as Maskirovka. Soviets were known for doing stuff like this. The eventual policy though was to appear backward to foreigners so perhaps it was for internal propoganda instead.
