Most will suggest not to use command squads due to the fact that they are more expensive than normal marines but do not have more resilience against power weapons. Also, a captain is required which may not be the best HQ choice.
The models in the command squad can replace either the chainsword or the bolt pistol for a meltagun - they keep the one they did not trade in.
My suggestion on a command squad is to try and keep it cheap - they are still going to die fast to any dedicated assault unit. Transports are good buys for Marines because they are relatively cheap - the % increase in cost is low for the increased mobility and survivability.

What about using Cato Sicarius as my captain, i kinda like the idea of making one of my tactical tank hunters. If i did use Sicarius would it be better just to have escort made up of Sternguard.

Command Squads are actually somewhat inefficient for Sicarius, as the Apothecary's FNP is wasted on him. The Sternguard escort seems cooler to me.

Well, a Cmd squad is generally too expensive for what it can achieve.
How about posting your army list?

Doesn`t the apothecerian give FNP, `cause that boosts survival chances

Low model count makes FNP meh.
And with weight of fire he can be assigned wounds.
In addition... I run 30 plague marines at 1675 and I feel it's fragile.
5/6 dudes with FNP is not something that impresses me defensively....3++ only interest me a little, but the cost makes it a turn-off a bit.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
