Hello all,
I am going to be playing in a local GT, and wanted to make sure I knew how some of the Lizard-men characters work?

Ancient Stegadons
-Under the description for Ancient Stegadons, It says they have 2 giant blow pipes and then under the description for giant blow pipes it says they shoot 2d6 shots, does that mean each one actually fires 4d6?

Kroq-Gar
-Does the hand of the gods work in hand to hand, its not a magic missile and i would assume that you can see the unit your fighting?
However common sense is unimportant when thinking about WHFB?

1) Yes
2) Spells have to state they can be cast into combat specifically, otherwise they cannot. This is targetting the unit in front and is therefore being cast into combat with no specifica allowance to do so, and therefore cannot be used in close combat.

If the description says each weapon shoots 2d6, then the stegadon gets 4d6 shots total.

FAQ says yes, it hits units in hand to hand.

You'd have to check, but I think the last FAQ said the attacks affect units in close combat as well.

FAQ says specifically YES on hitting engaged units.

Sigh, another FAQ that needed to be an errata.

Sorry for the duff information!

It's asking far too much for everyone to know the ins and outs of every FAQ out there. All I ask is that they be knowledgeable about their own armies FAQ's.

It IS my army though, however as I dont use Carnosaurs and also dont use Special Characters I skipped over that bit...

I only found it so quickly because I have the FAQ on this computer. I also don't use special characters or carnosaurs. Good to know though.

Annoying thing is that part of me WANTS to use carnosaurs...however even with no longer being a Large Target they are so underwhelming. THey should be at least WS4 (the ultimate jungle pred only WS3? pah!) and drop by 50 points - or maybe to the same as a Hydra, at least! (worse save, worse WS, no hatred makes a big difference)

Oh, I don't know. I think they are viable, especially not being a large target. Ultimately WS 3 compared to a 4 isnt that big a deal, as you are usually going to hit on a 4+ anyways. Getting hit back is the issue, but honestly, if you are getting hit back that much, something is going wrong. An old on a carnosaur with Blade of Realities is pure carnage.

I've gotten so used to not using them that I didn't even notice that they are no longer large targets.

I'll still continue to use a maxed out slann until saurus lords become viable as support characters and not just solo beatsticks.

But sometimes don't you just want to break out the beatstick... and see if yours can win out...

I have a beatstick, it's called a maxed out slann hiding in 20 temple guard. He's far less likely to die than a solo lord and will kill just as much if not more.

I like beatsticks that don't scream " SHOOT ME SHOOT ME!!!"

Which is why my oldblood is in a unit of Cav on a ColdOne - cheaper mount, improves his armour save, win for me.

BoR is overrated - Burning Blade is the better all round. Kills hydras dead (any hit wounds) and makes Tomb Kings go away

Overrated? Not even close. I love the Burning Blade, don't get me wrong. But the BoR is one of the deadliest weapons in the game.

Also, do you realize how many points you are essentially wasting by taking the Old Blood on Cold One with Burning Blade? The Scar Vet is much cheaper with that load out and not that much worse. In my opinion, you are wasting the only 2 reasons to take an Old Blood, the Carny and the BoR.

I guess this thread has been derailed, haha.

You cant get a ward save of any use if you take a Scar vet though.

True, but I've never considered their ward saves worth it for the points. Maybe I haven't played with one enough to find that I need a ward save. Limited experience has shown it to be a non-issue. *shrug*

There are too many cannons and stonethrowers around - never mind bolt throwers (1/3 chance to kill after wounding, and dwarf ones wound ona 2+...) et al, to risk it.

Plus even a 0+ save in CC gets nukerd either by proliferation of S7 OR KB OR Ignore Armour.

The 5+ has saved my skin too many times to count.

I can see it.

Which is why I don't run champs in my Cav unit - means I get LOS! at least once

Carni w/o Large Tarket means he can hide from shooting behind skink screens and other units. This is a big help to keeping him from being shot.

True, but that does not keep him any safer from cannons and the like, which are the main concerns. Though, I don't think they are numerous enough to invalidate the Carny.
