I'm still new to 40K and have a rules question:

I'm building a Tau army (yay shooty armies!), and on a Crisis Suit Commander (among other units), under "Equipment" it states: "...is equipped with an XV8 Crisis battlesuit, and must select three battlesuit weapons systems or support systems. He may select additional items from the Battlesuit Wargear list, including Special Issue systems."

Question 1: Do "must select" items still cost points? I understand in the Pathfinder entry where it states "Pathfinders must selsct a Devilfish troop carrier at an additional cost of 80 points." This indicates to me that I have to pay the points cost for the devilfish, but in the XV8 entry it doesn't state, "at an additional cost," it just states that they "must select."

Question 2: As far as "Battlesuit Wargear list" goes, can I select additional weapons systems or support systems, or only from the wargear?

Question 3: I hear some (possibly ignorant) people talking about Pathfinders infiltrating, but I don't see it in the rules for Pathfinders, nor do I see it in the Scout universal special rule. Do they infiltrate or not?

1: All XV8 suits (including the commander) must BUY three battle suit systems, sorry, no freebies. The commander and bodyguards have the option to get additional options via wargear (limit of 100 pts).

2: Only from the wargear list.

3: Pathfinders have the Scout USR, not Infiltrate.

Q1: You have to pay points for each item selected, even for mandatory upgrades.

Q2: You may only select a maximum of 3 weapons/support systems. The remainder is wargear like: Bonding Knife, Ejection System, et cetera.

Q3: Units that are scouts are often able to infiltrate as part of their rules. Think of all those Space Marine Scouts that end up blowing up the side armor of your Exorcist in my game last week...

Edit: The red part does not apply to the Pathfinders, you are correct they have the Scout not Infiltrate USR, sorry about that.

1) nor does it say you don't have to pay a price. you have to choose 3 of your choice but pay the full price for them and the armory section mentions points when choosing those three.

2) it says select three things from the weapons and support systems list (which are there own columns). you can then select additional stuff from the third column, the wargear list. only 3 weapons/support systems max, with twin linked counting as two of the three if you take it. only broadsides can have more since they can choose more from their entry (one support and two twin linked weapons).

3) you are correct in that they scout, not infiltrate. they can also outflank because of the scout ability. sorry, no infiltration. even if they had it, i wouldn't use it as it would put my only markerlights in danger, lol.
