Is anyone else thinking that the Battlecannon looks like a great way to handle the bugs?
Insta-killing Warriors and the like
Wounding everything on 2's
Punching through everyone's saves but the Tyrannofex
Denying anything T4 or less a FnP save
Wiping out hordes starting from turn 1

Sounds like they would kill nids just fine. Im looking forward to my Inq/mystics helping me destroy the new spore drop pod occupants.

you can't shoot the occupants of the Pod with the mystic rules, only the pod itself.
At least until a new FAQ comes out.

Well it's great against people who play warrior heavy and swarm armies, but against tougher untis, like MC's, chances are they will have FnP on them, and they have multiple wounds. 1/2/3 battlecannon shots make no impact.
I personally like to play with the big boys, so I'm far more scared of double tap plasma on vets than of a single battlecannon.

Everyone plays this by the FAQ for Drop Pods, but Ordnance would hit both the pod and the occupants anyway if you placed the blast correctly.

The Battlecannon is not as effective against the big guys you're right but its still wounding on 2's with a 4+ FNP save at best so its not entirely useless.
Plasma/Melta or Lascannons are going to be the safest way to deny FnP at range but something tells me that you're going to have to finish off alot of the big guys with a Power Fist up close.

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

My basilisks and demolishers ran rough over the new 'nid dex in my last game. Although the LRD is the best anti-absolutley everything generalist in the game (IMHO) it really shone against the bipolarity of 'nids. Pasting 9/10 of a termigaunt squad and the spore it landed in is fun, and all that AP2 just demolishes MCs. The basilisks found joy in beating the snot out of several squads of warriors. Even spread out to the max, I killed 8 in one hit, handily clearing an objective.
However, the best showing had to go to my Paskterminator. 9 S5 and 4 twin linked S7 shots re-rolling to wound (at BS4) felled 2 hive tyrants, a carnifex and some assorted gaunts in short order. That thing is definitly going to be my command tank in my Amoured Company.

Gotta love a S10 AP2 pie plate huh? The only drawback I see is that 24" is within the danger zone for alot of Tyranid units, either shooty or possible assaulting so you really gotta be careful.
That is a nice thing with the Battlecannon, you can start firing turn 1 and get in 2-3 good turns of shooting before they hit your lines.

Range is the BC's primary advantage. When things get more up close and personal, which they will, I like the idea of a Demolisher for all-purpose work.
When hunting MCs, I run my CCS with two plasmaguns and a Lascannon. That's an S9 and 4 S7 shots at double-tap range, all BS4 and twin-linked if I have time to use BiD. What's more, I have FOMT against Venomthrope cover saves and can issue both in one turn if needed.

There are what, two T5 critters in the book? Two 2+ SV monsters? I don't think a Demolisher is worth it, I think you're much better off with the Battlecannon.

But several bugs can take extended carapace ;p
Your also have to note.. is the nid player going to take several venomthropes? if so then the LRD is going to be more helpful in the long run.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k. Rule #1 - BBAP

Possible 5 S7 AP2 blast shots at 36"? Lolwut saves, there are no saves against this.

But at Str7, it's not going to instagib the bunches of multi-wound T4 critters the `Nids can take.

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake. |

Besides the multiple cover saves they are likely to have.
Actually I think the best time to use an Executioner is against MCs. Wounding on 3's with 3+ shots is alot better then wounding on 2's with 1 shot (Battlecannon and Demolisher).
