For my latest battle, my opponent said no. Bascially the description is a unit can shoot with any missile weapon in the magic phase. Is the Casket considered a missile weapon? Thanks for the clarification!

I agree with you that no because it does not clarify and, yeah like you said Cryonicleech, it says "Is cast like an Incantation" does spells count as missile weapons? (sorry if thats a slowed question). Also it states wounds are distributed as shooting hits. Hmmm...?

I would say no, as it says "Is cast like an Incantation" and the rules for Righteous Smiting state "Missile Weapons" which the Casket does not clarify as, IMHO.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Doesn't this belong in WHFB? I've never heard of an incantation in 40k, only in WHFB for Tomb King. I apologize If I'm wrong but it seems odd.

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

I can't find either of those things in my 40K rulebook, nor can I remember ever hearing of a "Casket of Souls" (sounds dead cool, though).

It is a fantasy question, I reported the thread instead of replying when I first saw it.

See, but the Incantations themselves are not missile weapons.

The wounds are distributed AS shooting hits, that does not mean they ARE shooting hits.

And thanks to everyone for your obvious contribution. We get it, wrong sub-forum.

ah sorry for posting in 40k.

Yeah its looking like you cant cast it. It just sucks that the rules dont clarify or really give you a hard answer.

it's rather simple in this case Rightous smiting allows one missile weapon armed unit to fire in the magic phase.

In the Tomb king book there are only 4 units with missile weapons, Skeleton bowmen, Light Cav, Tomb King Chariots and the screaming skull catapult.

The Casket of Souls isn't a missile unit but an upgrade for a Liche Priest giving him one of the most lethal spells in the game so it cannot be cast on it

A spell and a missile attack are two totally different things.

Jeez, how OP would the casket be with a chance to pop twice a turn? Just this weekend I watched it kill 900 points of greenskins before they even got to move. No thanks.

I've been trying to say that in the Flag of Blood Keep thread. But I'm sure Nos will now say that missile attack =/= ranged attack and therefore all spells that are not self casts are ranged attacks!!!

aerethan - erm, actually NO you havent been saying that.

I have said that *anything* with a range or done "from range" is by definition a ranged attack. Missiles etc are irrelevant to that discussion, but highly relevant here.

Flag of Blood keep does NOT SPECIFY MISSILES, got that?

So now I need to dig up precedence that ranged= missile, gotcha.

I'll get cracking on my BRB and FAQ's to see if I can find anything.

I fear our disagreement may never end.

Except your disagreement is a) with the English language and b) with the entire way the entire ruleset is written.

Mine isn't.
