Yes I know the BT's are a close combat orientated group, but do you think in casual play that anyone would mind? Is there an unwritten rule for this kinda stuff? I just like Dev Squads, and think they could be useful for certain missions.

I was thinking of making a Dev Squad painted up like the Imperial Fists, being the origin of their gene-seed, but would Crimson Fists make more sense? I know they are near extinction and doubt they would spare any soldiers to another chapter.

The problem is that the BT codex does not contain the option for Devastators. Thus you would be fielding an illegal army. That is what most people would have a problem with.

personally, i'd ask you to use the generic marine codex if you wanted to use devastator squads. less heavy weapons is the price you pay to use BT's and SW; in exchange, you get a ton of benefits. i think you'd be more likely to have an opponent agree to it if you voluntarily gave up something like your special vows in exchange for it. the above is true for regular 40k. if you're playing apocalypse, what you're proposing is completely legal (as is pretty much anything in apoc).

I understand this and see your point.

I guess it would have to be a decision among the people I play with.

Anyways, any thought on the second half? If I do plan on doing this, what color scheme should I do?. Or are there other better options?

Paint them up in BT colors, as then you could still run them as codex marines, or split them up to attach to BT Initiate squads (which can still min/max las/plas [not that plasma is anything near as useful as it was previously]).

I have a BT force that sees occasional play as a C:SM force.

Quite frankly, and I say this as a BT player myself, if you really want a Devastator squad, play vanilla marine and paint them to BT colors.
It simply wouldn't be right to play with the BT-specific rules and have non-BT units in the army.

Not having Devs is all part of the balance of the BT book. I would really like some good bikes for CSM, but I cant just steal the loyalist ones (I really would like to...). I agree with the others who said you should just use the vanilla codex.
