Hi
more of a rules query
Zoanthropes have two psychic shooting attacks.
Does this mena that they have to pass a psychic test to sue the power, AND THEN roll to hit using their BS as normal?
thanks

Yes, but certain Hive Tyrant powers do not need to roll to-hit because they explicitly state they "automatically hit". The Zoanthropes have no such statement in their psychic power rules.

I think it's a reasonable trade for having the best anti tank weapon in the game.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

I'd rather have a Railgun for the vastly superior range, despite lacking the Lance rule.

All in all, the Railgun is better I am afraid. While the Lance rule is nice, it only really helps against Land Raiders, Battlewagons and Leman Russ. Against AV 10 and 11 its the same as the Railgun. Add to that the fact even though Zoanthropes and Broadsides are the same BS, the Railgun is Twin Linked and has quite literally quadruple the range of the Warp Lance.

And can't be shut down by Psychic Hoods and Runic Weapons.

Compared to the Railgun, it's an assault weapon, the thrope gets a 3++ save, you can drop an AP3 blast instead (compared to only the hammerhead railgun can do it's large blast and it's not AP3) and all for 10 points less than a basic Broadside (which will increase with the addition of ASS if you want them to be kind of mobile and/or more per shield drone if you want some survivability) or you are looking at well over double the cost for a single railhead.

I get that we will probably just end up disagreeing back and forth, but I would happily trade in my Broadsides for Zoanthropes, (would probably keep the hammerhead for the ability to abuse the disruption pod and piss off opponents)

edit: Removed points values, probably not a good idea to have them in the post.

There is a significant difference between the Railgun and the zoanthrope's psychic lance, being that the range and speed of the carrier is vastly different. Also it is worth noting that Hammerheads get constant concealment from their 5 point upgrade.

Broadsides vs Zoanthropes however is a bit closer. It's a tradeoff, the broadsides and zoanthropes each have advantages and disadvantages.

ZT has to pass psychic test, and then has short range. BS has much longer range, and twin linked. ZT is assault, BS can buy an upgrade to move and fire. ZT has the advantage on invlun save, but BS has a better normal save.

You also have to consider the entire army when you look at the comparison, so you can't just say BS vs ZT in a vacuum.
