this is a lore of Nurgle spell from the WoC book

Cloying Quagmire
9+ to cast pick an enemy unit within 24" of the spellcaster. Every model in the unit must take an initiative test and if they fail must take an armour save. If they pass the armour save the weight of the armour drags them down into the mud, remove the model from the game

ok theres the spell and heres the incident, I played against a friend of mine who had brettonians and I got this spell of on his 15 strong knight errant unit. Now I know the knights have a ward save but this is the thing, in the main rulebook a ward save can only be taken IF you fail the armour save and as you read in the spell above they die if they pass the armour save now this led into a moment of bickering before we decided to roll the dice and they got their ward save (3 out of 5 died ) and it has perplexed me as to whether they get the ward save from this spell or not.

I have asked 4 differant store managers the question, 2 said yes they did and 2 said no they didn't so I wondered if anyone out there could help me out on this one

Not sure this helps at all....

You can take ward saves even if you do not get armour saves. To say that you only get a ward save AFTER you fail an armour save is incorrect.

If you get hit with a cannon ball for example, you are not normally allowed to take an armour save, but you can still take your ward save. In this case you can take your ward save without having to fail the armour save.

2,500 - Order. Unity. Obedience.

No ward save...You can only take ward saves against wounds. Cloying Quagmire does not do wounds, it simply removed the model.

Forever alone

And never has fighting Bretonnians been more amusing.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

You can only take ward saves (or any type of save) against *wounds* - this causes no wounds, no ward saves.

Agreed. The spell doesn't deal wounds, so ward saves never come into play against it.

Thank you very much with your help as it did solve the same argument tonight over the same spell and everyone said as it didn't cause wounds like some other spells then you won't get the ward save thanks

believe me it wasn't easy so had to print the page off to show them (sometimes if I bring forward a question I expect them to start shouting "burn The Witch")

The main thing to do is point out the the rulebook states "saves" are for stopping wounds, then ask them to find out how many *wounds* CQ has caused.

That should be enough for them , hopefully

Ask them to prove it - if you weigh less than a duck you could be in trouble
