here is my idea:
Plasma pistol, 'gets hot'
it explodes, (deals damage as normal)
flamer template behind him, deals half damage in template (so, S3 AP4.) which would make it difficult, but acceptable.

Thoughts?

Wouldn't it explode outwards? It's not an empty barrel that douses only him and those in his direction. It's an EXPLOSION. Small blast template, though this idea is silly. The plasma/flames would only effect him. Not much damage even from the shrapnel. Even a Guardsmen could deal with minor burns.

That doesn't make sense at all...also I thought the whole thing behind gets hot isn't that it explodes, but it overheats to the extent that it causes damage.

Plasma guns dont explode, they OVERHEAT. (lit. discharge superheated gases from their coolant systems).

Also, what kind of slow would build a coolent system so it dumped waste heat straight behind it?
If anything, just a small blast centered on the base. But then again, we really don't need to make Gets Hot! any worse for GEQs.

I was thinking, shouldn't it work as a power weapon if the firer survives getting hot. Only for that turn of course.

When you fail the gets hot save.

A s10 ap1 large blast is put around the model killing him instantly in a firey ball of bodily fluids.
