So, here's a question about the new `Nid book I don't think I've seen brought up yet. Which is better;

Stinger Salvo
Rng 18" Str 5 AP 4 Assault 4

Cluster Spines
Rng 18" Str 5 AP - Assault 1, Large Blast

Bunch of the big critters, such as everyone's favorite Tervigon, comes with Stringer Salvo, but which it can trade for Cluster Spines for Free. With the Stringers, you have a fair good AP, but only four shots with a 50% hit rate so not likely to cause much damage. The Cluster on the other hand can cause a lot of hits with it's Large Blast, but lacks Any AP. In addition, that Large Blast, with a shortish range weapon, is carried by a low BS monster who's going to be surrounded by a horde of your own little critters. One bad scatter and I know who's getting a tie for Father's Day this year.

in my opinion i like the cluster spines its better for when people disembark, and AP4 eh i wouldnt count on that killing to much, i say spore pods cluster spine tervigon stinger salvo if ur against eldar.

Stinger Salvo all the way! AP4 doesn't do much against MEqs, but its fine against IG and Xenos.

Tervigon: Cluster can scatter on its babies
Spore Pod: *must* shoot at closest enemy - it could easily hurt itself (not to mention its recently disembarked cargo) with a large blast, especially when you consider it will often land 1.00001" away from the enemy
Harpy: Already has a twin-linked large blast, so an Assault 4 gun is better for picking off remnants than another large blast would be
Tyrranofex: Maybe, though again for close work it's got a Template, and an Assault 4 gun might be better for picking off remnants. If enemies are farther than 6" move + template range, the thing should be shooting its big rupture cannon at something else anyways.

I am going for the Cluster Spines on my Tervigon. So many units get cover anyway I do not think two hits from the Stinger Salvo will do much to help the overall game plan. However an accurate template on a disembarked unit or into area Terrain could help shift a unit. Maximum 9" scatter so not too worried about the babies.

Think I will go the other way on the T'fex since it will mostly be shooting Tanks.

Cluster Spines always for me. The stinger salvo's ap is easily negated by cover, so it only really matters against tanks; even then s5 is so weak you cant count on it killing anything heavier than a land speeder, and even against a land speeder you need quite a bit of luck.

As for hitting your own gants... well if you spread out a bit even that will only result in a few wounds... and as I plan on screening my tervigons with hive guard, ill probably be granting a cover save to my gants from my cluster spine anyway.

Stinger because it's free.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole
