I decided to start lizards, because they are much different than the other armies I play(ed). My current armies are dark elves, slaanesh daemons, and empire. I also have played ogres and tomb kings. Lizards have qualities that none of my previous armies have had: Good saves, and T4 on the same model. I refuse to play dwarfs, since I want to move and have magic, this left the lizards as my army of choice. I almost went with WoC, but I decided against is since my local group has too much already, and I haven't been impressed with them. (besides, i would want to run marauders, which aren't fitting with my criteria)

So after some calculations on how much it is going cost me, and seeing what units I actually would like to paint, I have settled on the following list:

Slaan: general, BSB, Focus of mystery, Rumination, the becalming cogitation ~ 400
Scar vet: Light armor, enchanted shield, piranha blade ~ 140
Skin priest: lvl 2, ancient stegadon, EotG, dispel scroll, plaque of tepok ~ 430

18 saurus warriors: spears, banner, music ~ 234
18 saurus warriors: spears, banner, music ~ 234
12 skink skirmishers ~ 84
12 skink skirmishers ~ 84
12 skink skirmishers ~ 84

5 Cold one cav ~ 175
3 terradons ~ 90
16 Temple guard: std, war banner ~ 295

Total ~ 2250

This is going to be the core of my collection, I plan to add more as I learn what works for me and what doesn't.

So let me know if there is any flaws with my list, or things that could be improved upon.

I'd say drop some skinks to pick up some salamanders or razordons. Salamanders should be alot stronger with the rumored removal of partial template hits in 8th edition.

This list looks very well thought out. What's the reasoning behind 12 skinks? It looks intentional (since you've fit in as much as possible, and other units are at minimum size... without even a banner on the calvary).

You have Excellent magic defense with the Becalming Slann and the plaque.

Aerethan's right in that you don'ot have anything that can "reach out and touch someone" other than magic, so a salamander might be nice. I tried Lizzies and found them a bit unpredictable, but if you've got a column of heavily armored, low toughness models coming at you... they're the shizzle!!

I also like how you've included almost every "manueverable" unit that the Lizzies have. When I was trying them out, the large blocks and steggies really bogged down the middle... so imho the skinks, cav, and terradons are a MUST!

The reason for the units of 12 skinks is they fill out the points exactly. What else am I going to spend 42 points on that actually matters?

I don't have a banner on a unit of Cold ones, since they are ideally a flanking force. If they are hitting a flank, that fact plus the number of kills that 15 attacks (10 at S5) should generate should be enough to break my opponent. During a combined charge, the block units already have banners, so there really is no purpose unless I wanted a magic banner.

If I dropped down to units of 10 skinks, dropped the magic items on the scar vet (for mundane armor and a GW) I can free up quite a bit more points. 95 in fact. (and I can cut even further If I drop the current items on the skink priest for the diadem of power, down to 110 saved) But what would I spend it on? I don't want to make the cold one unit more expensive, it is already going to attract quite a bit of attention. I could go with a razor or sally, but that only eats up 75-80 points. I am kind of at a impasse when it comes to those last few points. For now I also don't want to spend a huge amount of money, so a second unit of terradons is out of the question.

I guess I could take cupped hand of the old ones and the BSB could be the banner that causes fear. That comes out to exactly 95 points. That actually might be what I'll do instead.

Part of the reason why my army is built this way is the fact I am trying to buy as few boxes as possible when I start the army. The battalion box comes with 12 skinks, 20 saurus, 8 Cold ones, 10 temple guard. If I buy 1 box of templguard, sarurs, and skinks, then I just have to buy the characters and terradons. This list only fails to use 3 Cold ones and 4 temple guard out of that starting point, and it seemed to be pretty decent on paper. Buying a effective 2250 army for about $336 retail is pretty good.

Wow, that is a good plan for the money . Makes a lot more sense than buying somewhat randomly as most of us do...

I misread it and thought that the skink priest already had the diadem (hence my comment about magic defense) but I actually like him better with the plaque to be more offensive.

I didn't realize that neither Slann or the TG cause fear... that might cause a problem! And cupped hands sounds like a good idea, too! Although you better not lose the Slann... he's becoming mighty hefty points-wise at this rate.
